Dr. Kay MacPhee, creator SpellRead, was Principal of PEI School for Hearing Impair. She went on to create 2 of Canada's leading structured lit programs, SpellRead & Ooka Island.
Dr. MacPhee, our mentor, would be thrilled the structured lit movement is finally happening. ❤️📚

For educators interested in explicit literacy instruction for older students, we're happy to welcome Melinda Cameron to #LitLearn2024 in April for her session!
This professional workshop focuses on maximizing the effectiveness of explicit literacy skill instruction for older students, including those with exceptionalities. The case study of SpellRead program implementation in a Nova Scotia Regional Centre for Education context will be used to provide real actionable takeaways for classroom set-up and routines. Additionally, the often-overlooked topic of behavior management will be addressed. @HalifaxLearning

If we are not at or around a 95% reading success rate we are just settling & deeming the reading failure of our students as acceptable.
Your curriculum choice matters (tier 1) & so does your MTSS(tiers2 &3).
We must do better!
Our children can’t wait.👇🏼👇🏼

During #blackhistorymonth, we remember anti-literacy laws that prohibited Black people (enslaved or free) from learning to read. Today, we are working to ensure that all students have access to scientific-aligned reading instruction.
