Όντως σημαντική η διόρθωση του U.S. Department of State για το παράνομο τουρκολιβυκό μνημόνιο.
Γιατί όμως χρειάστηκε να γίνει διόρθωση;
▪️ Μήπως οι ΗΠΑ διόρθωσαν για να μην προχωρήσουν Ελλάδα και Αίγυπτος στη διεύρυνση της συμφωνηθείσας μερικής ΑΟΖ μεταξύ των;
▪️ Μήπως οι ΗΠΑ διόρθωσαν για να μην προχωρήσουν Ελλάδα και Κύπρος σε οριοθέτηση των ΑΟΖ των;
Απορία:
Οι από Αθήνα και Λευκωσία διαρροές για (α) διεύρυνση της μερικής ΑΟΖ Ελλάδας-Αιγύπτου (που κακώς και περιέργως δεν έγινε το 2020), και (β) η οριοθέτηση ΑΟΖ Ελλάδας-Κύπρου, ήσαν μόνο «ψυχολογικά τεχνάσματα»;
Η επίσημη δήλωση του U.S. Department of State:
«Η ανακοίνωση της επικύρωσης του τουρκολιβυκού μνημονίου συνεννόησης για την οριοθέτηση έχει κλιμακώσει την ένταση στην περιοχή, είναι αντιπαραγωγική και προκλητική - και η θέση μας επί του θέματος παραμένει αμετάβλητη.
Προτρέπουμε όλες τις χώρες, συμπεριλαμβανομένων των εταίρων στην Ανατολική Μεσόγειο, να επιλύουν τις θαλάσσιες διαφορές μέσω διαπραγματεύσεων με καλή πίστη και να αποφεύγουν κάθε προκλητική συμπεριφορά.
Η Ελλάδα και η Τουρκία είναι και οι δύο σύμμαχοι στο ΝΑΤΟ. Τις ενθαρρύνουμε να επιδιώξουν διμερή διάλογο για την αντιμετώπιση τυχόν ζητημάτων διαφωνίας.
Η ειρηνική επίλυση τέτοιων διαφορών ανοίγει τον δρόμο για εμπορικές επενδύσεις και δραστηριότητες έρευνας, οι οποίες θα ωφελήσουν ολόκληρη την περιοχή.»

The three countries, being closest U.S. allies in Eastern Mediterranean, have a common foe bringing them together under the "3+1" Alliance which is a platform of stability. The region is threatened by Turkish aggression and Erdogan's provocative behavior.
Turkey is a country that directly challenges the sovereignty of Greece and Israel, whilst it is illegally occupying over 36% of the territory of Cyprus. Turkey is a key security threat to a model ally (Israel), a great ally (Greece) and one of the best partners (Cyprus) of the U.S.
Turkey threatens the U.S. security and and constantly undermines the American interests.

Protests in Albania are mainly driven by widespread anger over government corruption and opposition to a luxury coastal resort project linked to Jared Kushner.
Despite Frau @vonderleyen's - who seems to have an infatuation with authoritarian and undemocratic regimes - numerous praises of Albanian PM Edi Rama, protesters accuse his administration of systemic corruption, state capture, democratic backsliding, and catering to oligarchical interests. Ursula von der Leyen has stated that Albania will complete its EU accession negotiations by the end of 2027.

Albania, a country where corruption is systemic, yet for Frau @vonderleyen it is a frontrunner for accession.
Systemic is also the discrimination of the ethnic Greek minority in Albania; land confiscation, for one, depriving the Greeks of ancestral properties to benefit Rama's real estate developer pals, partners on the take. The imprisonment of the ethnic Greek mayor-elect of Himara @fredisbeleris was no coincidence either.
Albania under Edi Rama has been accused being the "world's newest narco-state threat", the "Colombia of Europe". Several high-level officials, e.g., Saimir Tahiri and Fatmir Xhafaj, both former Ministers of Interior, have been directly implicated in major narcotics trafficking investigations. Rama's brother, Olsi Rama, was "allegedly" connected to a major criminal organization involved in international cocaine trafficking.
Investigative reports by media outlets, anti-corruption investigations, and investigations by international law enforcement agencies, concluded that immense profits from drug trafficking - with entities linked to international narcotics trafficking - have been systematically laundered into high-end real estate developments approved by Rama's government.
Contrariwise, and there is much more of Mr. Rama's "escapades" than the afore mentioned, Ursula von der Leyen has stated that Albania will complete its EU accession negotiations by the end of 2027. 🙄
EU-enlargement for the sake of enlargement... fundamental democratic standards ignored... meritocracy is no more... kakistocracy, nepotism and cronyism have become interchangeable with the EU under the helm of Frau von der Leyen... An EU of democratic deficit!

Natural gas in Europe is tenfold more expensive than in the US: A deliberate political and suicidal choice, not an economic/market one.

Reality check:
• Türkiye ranks 163rd of 180 on the 2026 World Press Freedom Index. Journalists, opposition figures, and civil society activists face routine arrests and prosecutions.
• It holds far more political prisoners than Putin’s Russia by most credible estimates, with thousands jailed for alleged Gülen links, Kurdish politics, or simply criticizing the president.
• It routinely ignores European Court of Human Rights rulings (including the long-running cases of Osman Kavala and Selahattin Demirtaş).
• It has carried out broad crackdowns on independent media, civil society, and LGBTQ+ groups.
• Erdogan and his government have repeatedly and openly backed Hamas — a group Canada designates as a terrorist organization — while hosting its operatives.
• It maintains the occupation of northern Cyprus, conducts military operations and maintains occupation zones in Syria and northern Iraq, and rejects UNCLOS while aggressively asserting expansive maritime claims that threaten neighbors Greece and Cyprus .

Canada previously froze and cancelled military export permits over diversion risks and human-rights concerns. Now the joint statement treats these fundamental differences as a shared foundation of “values.”
This is the classic polite Canadian performance: list the values for the cameras, set the actual record aside for trade, defense deals, and diversification away from the United States.
It is the diplomatic equivalent of smiling for the photo while the facts in the room reek of hypocrisy — the same selective outrage Canada deploys against other governments when convenient.

This is what we call double standards.
Funny how @MarkJCarney has no problem visiting Turkey, an authoritarian Islamist regime that oppresses opposition politicians, journalists, and LGBTQ individuals and illegally occupies 40% of Cyprus.
Meanwhile, since becoming Prime Minister, he has never bothered to visit Israel, the only democratic nation in the Middle East that upholds our Western values, with equal rights for all.

Δεν μπορούμε να αλλάξουμε το παρελθόν. Μπορούμε όμως να διορθώσουμε ορισμένα από τα λάθη που κάναμε εις βάρος της ιστορίας και της αρχιτεκτονικής μας κληρονομιάς.
Πριν από λίγο καιρό παρουσίασα μια μελέτη για τα δέντρα και τα πεζοδρόμια της Λευκωσίας, η οποία συγκέντρωσε 8.391 προβολές στην πλατφόρμα Χ.
Ακολούθησε η πρόταση μου ηγια την αναβίωση της ιστορικής πρόσοψης του καφενείου Χατζησάββα, που συγκέντρωσε 2.341 προβολές.
Στη συνέχεια, προχώρησα στη μελέτη αναπαράστασης της πρόσοψης του ιστορικού κινηματογράφου «Μαγικό Παλάτι».
Δύο χώροι που δεν ήταν απλώς κτίρια. Ήταν σημεία συνάντησης, κοινωνικής ζωής, πολιτισμού και αναμνήσεων για ολόκληρες γενιές Κυπρίων.
Σήμερα προτείνω κάτι που θεωρώ όχι μόνο εφικτό, αλλά και χρέος μας απέναντι στην ιστορία της πρωτεύουσάς μας.
Να επαναφέρουμε τις ιστορικές προσόψεις του καφενείου Χατζησάββα και του κινηματογράφου «Μαγικό Παλάτι» στις αρχικές τους θέσεις, μπροστά από τα σημερινά κτίρια, χωρίς να χρειαστεί να κατεδαφίσουμε τα υφιστάμενα οικοδομήματα.
Ευτυχώς, ο διαθέσιμος χώρος μάς επιτρέπει να εξετάσουμε σοβαρά αυτή την πρόταση.
Δεν ανακαλύπτουμε κάτι καινούργιο.
Στο Λονδίνο, μια πόλη που χιλιάδες Κύπριοι γνωρίζουν καλά, είδαμε να ανεγείρονται σύγχρονα κτίρια και ουρανοξύστες, ενώ ταυτόχρονα διατηρούνταν οι ιστορικές προσόψεις παλαιότερων οικοδομών.
Η πρόοδος δεν σημαίνει να γκρεμίζεις το παρελθόν. Σημαίνει να χτίζεις το μέλλον σεβόμενος την ιστορία σου.
Γιατί λοιπόν να μη συμβεί και στη δική μας Λευκωσία;
Γιατί να αφήνουμε τα παιδιά και τα εγγόνια μας να γνωρίζουν την παλιά πρωτεύουσα μόνο μέσα από ασπρόμαυρες φωτογραφίες;
Ας τους δώσουμε την ευκαιρία να περπατούν στους ίδιους δρόμους και να αντικρίζουν ξανά, έστω μέσα από μια πιστή αρχιτεκτονική ανακατασκευή, ένα κομμάτι από την ιστορία των παππούδων και των γονιών τους.
Πιστεύω ότι μια πόλη χωρίς μνήμη χάνει σταδιακά την ταυτότητά της.
Η Λευκωσία χρειάζεται ανάπτυξη, αλλά χρειάζεται και ψυχή. Χρειάζεται σύγχρονη αρχιτεκτονική, αλλά και σεβασμό στις ρίζες της.
Εδώ και χρόνια ονειρεύομαι αυτή την αναβίωση. Σήμερα προσπαθώ να αποδείξω ότι το όνειρο μπορεί να γίνει πραγματικότητα.
Δεν ζητώ να γυρίσουμε τον χρόνο πίσω. Ζητώ να φέρουμε ένα πολύτιμο κομμάτι της ιστορίας μας στο σήμερα.
Και επιτρέψτε μου να κλείσω με κάτι προσωπικό.
Βρίσκομαι πλέον στην τρίτη ηλικία. Έζησα τη Λευκωσία μιας άλλης εποχής. Γνώρισα τους δρόμους της, τα καφενεία της, τους κινηματογράφους της, τους ανθρώπους της.
Την είδα να αλλάζει, να μεγαλώνει, αλλά και να χάνει πολλά από εκείνα που την έκαναν ξεχωριστή.
Έχω ακόμη ένα όνειρο: να δω το καφενείο Χατζησάββα και το «Μαγικό Παλάτι» να ξαναστέκονται στη θέση τους.
Όχι για μένα μόνο.
Για τους παλιούς Λευκωσιάτες που τα θυμούνται, για τους νεότερους που δεν πρόλαβαν να τα γνωρίσουν και για τις γενιές που θα ακολουθήσουν.
Και, αν μου επιτρέπεται μια τελευταία προσωπική ευχή, θα ήθελα να προλάβω να τα δω να γίνονται πραγματικότητα, όσο βρίσκομαι ακόμη σε αυτή τη ζωή.
Αυτό θα ήταν για μένα μια από τις μεγαλύτερες ικανοποιήσεις της αρχιτεκτονικής μου πορείας.
Γιατί οι πόλεις που σέβονται το παρελθόν τους είναι οι πόλεις που αξίζουν ένα καλύτερο μέλλον.

Ankara is hosting a new R4+E3 meeting in Istanbul, bringing together Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Egypt, Britain, France and Germany to discuss Gaza, Yemen, Hormuz and even the Russia-Ukraine war.
The message is pretty clear: Erdogan is trying to position Turkey as the indispensable regional mediator and diplomatic hub between Europe and the Middle East.
He also plans to use the meeting to push for increased international pressure on Israel.

Is Ursula von der Leyen (and consequently the European Commission) an "invertebrate"?
The "ratification" of the so-called MOU by the Libyan Parliament between Libya and Turkey for the delimitation of their maritime borders is null and void - it is an unenforceable document, a void instrument, an instrument of coercion and fraud.
You, however, Frau @vonderleyen (and the rest of your EU clique) is partly to blame for it: It is you that is dying for making Turkey, a pirate-country by your own always meandering "admission", a vital component for the Union's defence.
On a directly related note Frau von der Leyen, whenever a statement of yours, of the European Commission's, begins with "We deeply regret," we recognize that it is going to be another hypocritical without a backbone¹ statement, one of no resolve.
You, Frau von der Leyen, are going all out to making the EU irrelevant. An EU of structural paralysis - geopolitical, military, and tech irrelevance.

We deeply regret the ratification today by the Libyan Parliament of the so-called Libyan-Türkiye Memorandum of Understanding on the delimitation of maritime jurisdictions in the Mediterranean Sea.
We recall that the EU’s position on this matter was clearly stated by the European Council in 2019 and remains unchanged.
This agreement infringes upon the sovereign rights of third states, it does not comply with the Law of the Sea, and is null and void.
We reaffirm our solidarity with Greece and Cyprus.
We reiterate the EU's well known position against any outside interference in Libya.
