I talk about video games, and wear a stack of hats. Check out my YouTube channel! I cover lots of retro SEGA/Nintendo games and hardware, among other things.

Hi, I’m Hat Stack Mike! I talk about video games, new and old, and wear a stack of hats.
Series I like include:
Sonic
Zelda
Smash Bros.
Street Fighter
Mario
Donkey Kong
Ace Attorney
Mortal Kombat
Banjo-Kazooie
WarioWare
Kirby
NiGHTS
Puyo Puyo
and a LOT more.
Let’s be friends!
In Sonic Heroes, I always thought that the Eggman statue turning into Neo Metal Sonic when everything gets flipped upside down in Hang Castle was a nice touch. Not the deepest foreshadowing ever or anything, but still pretty cool.

Anyone else going as Pumpkin Hill from Sonic Adventure 2 for Halloween this year or just me? 🎃⛰️
The costume has a treasure hunting minigame where you can move Knuckles across the “level” and the radar necklace will blink as you get closer to the hidden emerald in the pockets💎
I still find it really interesting that, according to the official Nintendo Player’s Guide, the blue-colored Bowser in Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japan) is actually Bowser’s twin brother. I wonder what his name is. I’d like to think it’s Howser, or Towser, or maybe Yowser.
Who else is a fan of the Tony Hawk games? Which one’s your favorite?
I got THPS3 with my GameCube on launch day, and had such a great time with it. It’s awesome.
Hot take, but I actually ended up liking THPS3 a lot more than the other GC launch game I bought, Luigi’s Mansion.
Super Street Fighter II is such an unbelievably special game to me. I played the console ports of this with friends for so many countless hours, and this (and the other versions of Street Fighter II) was always the game I played the most at the arcades.
Star Fox 2 is such a fascinating piece of Nintendo history. I think it’s the only time they officially released a cancelled game 20+ years later. I can’t think of a game that pushed a system more. It runs so sluggishly though that it makes it a bit hard to fully appreciate. 😆

In a few weeks time, I'll reveal whether these are indeed... different games.
I still don’t get why they renamed Sonic & Tails to Sonic Chaos. Don’t get me wrong, Sonic Chaos is a cool name and it’s what I grew up with. It just seemed unnecessary, especially considering Sonic & Knuckles was released the following year, so they had kind of a theme going on.
You can see more cool Sonic tidbits like this in my latest video! 😁

The early Sonic games have many differences between their releases in different regions, and I'll be looking at some of those differences between the Japanese and western releases of Sonic games. Hope you enjoy!

What do you think is the best launch game that released concurrently with a brand new console in your region?
These are my top three picks: Super Mario World, Sonic Adventure, and Zelda: Breath of the Wild!

The much maligned Sega 32X. An expensive add on with a small library but there are great games there! Virtua Fighter was a really decent port and quite impressive for the hardware.
So Nintendo Switch Sports Resort might be a huge improvement over the original after all? I was MASSIVELY disappointed by the original Switch Sports, so I was going to pass on this because I didn’t want to be duped again, but if it’s really that good then I might check it out.
Is there a better 3D fighter than Virtua Fighter 2?
I mean, probably, but not to my nostalgic, biased self.
