Great thread on the election of Select Committee chairs
🧵 One of the first tasks of the new Parliament is to elect Select Committee chairs. The Speaker will inform party leaders today how many chairs each party is entitled to. But how are the chairs allocated to parties, and how do the elections work? (Image: ©UK Parliament) 1/

Election tomorrow. FIND YOUR PHOTO ID. PUT IT IN YOUR POCKET OR BAG. The address DOESN'T need to match your constituency or current address. This is just to prove your ID. Passport, driving license, PASS card or Voter Certificate, or this stuff: electoralcommission.org.uk/v…

Powerful song from @MarshSongs. Worth noting that in the Economist Intelligence Units #DemocracyIndex Rwanda ranks 117th with a score of 3.30. The closer the score is to 10, the more democratic a country. Rwanda is classed as an authoritarian regime.
For the good people who fight it on the beaches, in the law courts, in their homes, in their communities, in our national institutions, and in their hearts. Keep fighting. #RwandaNotInMyName #RwandaBill @refugeecouncil @CityofSanctuary @amnesty @libertyhq @AsylumMatters @_KRAN_ @ZoeJardiniere @stand_for_all @LouCalvey @RefugeesAtHome @RefugeeAction @RefugeeTogether

Authoritarian regimes are not typically noted for respecting their citizens civil liberties. Rwanda's score is 2.65. However, citizens are often treated better than migrants. The UK scores 9.12 in the 2023 #DemocracyIndex - I expect this will lower in 2024.

This is very true!
Student evaluations are a great way to learn that you're the best teacher they ever had despite being the worst teacher in existence, and that you under, over, and appropriately prepare for each class.
