In the adaptive environment, in high food abundance contexts, presumably the first group planned coordinated hunting expeditions and the second group hunted and partially domesticated the first group. traditionsofconflict.com/blo… Is a recent example.
Multiple med/pre-med students at the University of Michigan were caught planning to poison future patients if they weren't "aligned with Palestine" while also planning to kill fellow students and teachers.
U of M refused to condemn their actions.
The rhetoric and actions taken by the eight people indicted in the University of Michigan conspiracy case was not just extreme. It was violent, threatening, and openly conspiratorial.
According to the indictment, one defendant said: “I’m gonna be the dirtiest f**king doctor ever.”
Another said: “get into that house then burn it down.” 🧵

Russell Brand has always been a sexual deviant; of that there’s no question.
What concerns me is this: we can convict someone with no physical evidence and sentence them to a likely hefty prison stint- fine. But during the Pakistani grooming scandal, an aborted foetus from a 14-year-old girl matched the DNA of an older Pakistani man who was not convicted.
I’m not upset Brand was convicted; I’m upset that the police, courts and judges treat perpetrators differently.

I would be more left if leftists weren't such West loathing freaks. Like I support universal healthcare and workers rights, but I don't support ayatollah Khamenei and Putin

Important detail re the Russell Brand verdict: The phrase "beyond reasonable doubt" is no longer used to instruct juries. Juries are now instructed in the language of "being sure," as in, "Are you sure that the defendant either knew she was not consenting or was reckless as to whether she did or did not consent?"
The judge (Mr Justice Bennathan) gave the jury a written “route to verdict” with a series of questions for each count. These repeatedly asked “Are you sure…"

English and Welsh jury trials. Cc @megynkelly @dshensmith

When the last several Harry Potter books were released, we had midnight book launches attended by millions. Children, in some cases very young, finished these 700 & 800 page books in a single day. And now people are telling me I made it up, that this couldn’t ever have happened.

I didn't believe in Pizzagate at all until the dude came in, shot the computer, surrendered, and then the judge (Ketanji) on his case ended up on the Supreme Court.
Someone needs to measure economic growth in subsequent centuries as a function of witch trial intensity.

The details of the rape charge Russell Brand was convicted of are as follows: A woman who had a threesome with him and put her tongue in his anus five minutes after meeting him (whilst in a relationship) later claimed that non-consensual anal sex occurred. As much as I’ve always disliked Brand, her account is dubious. There was no forensic evidence, no CCTV footage, no physical evidence of any sort and the report was made 20 years after the alleged incident took place.
A more plausible explanation is that Brand, being the degenerate he is, used the woman for his pleasure, and rudely discarded her afterwards. Regretting a sexual encounter is not the same as rape. Brand faces 10-15 years for this charge alone (if her account is true, I am gladdened by the punishment).
However, compare Brand’s case to that of Jameel Ahmed, a Pakistani in Bradford convicted of four counts of rape of a 12 year old girl. He was sentenced to just 8 years, and with the early release scheme he is likely out in a few years. In Ahmed’s case, unlike Brands, there was both forensic and physical evidence. 8 years.
Britain has a two-tier justice system. It’s as simple as that.

One of leftism's greatest coups: turning ideology into etiquette, making it so disagreeing with lib views is a politeness and conduct issue (which can then be punished by ostensibly neutral or apolitical institutions). Pointed out in 1987 by Joe Sobran.

A statistic that sounds fake but isn't: Not one single white American man born after 1984 has published a work of literary fiction in The New Yorker.
It's not because they stopped writing. It's because The New Yorker has refused to publish them. The publishing industry has blacked out a generation of male writers & then they wonder why boys don't read.
About 70% of publishing professionals are women.
Because agents and editors tend to select books they personally relate to, an increasing number of male authors are being sidelined in the publishing industry, resulting in an overwhelming number of female protagonists on our shelves—and a dearth of male ones.
No wonder young men are no longer reading.

The UK has laws that can ban people from telling their friends about an alleged assault. From telling all but a single police force. It’s dystopian.
The UK would be better with a First Amendment.
This account by @DanNeidle of Russell Brand's use of an injunction to silence (and bankrupt) a woman who accused him of assaulting her is shocking.
She wasn't even allowed to talk about it to the police or to medics other than named individuals.

And if we’re serious about improving healthcare, can we please compensate kidney donors, which could reverse stagnant donation rates and help save the ~10k Americans who die every year waiting for a kidney?
There are 47 cosponsors on a bipartisan bill that would do just that:

I spent 20,000 dollars in API credits having different AI models play each other at Blood on the Clocktower (a Mafia or Werewolf type social deception game).
The results were fascinating. Models have gotten much better over the course of this year at creative on-the-spot scheming and bluffing, and also at reasoning as a team to break apart these underground conspiracies.
I go through some of the most standout games these AIs played in this video. The new models are getting pretty good. If my friends pulled off some of these moves while we were playing, I’d give them a fist bump.
Fwiw, OpenAI’s newer models are much better than Anthropic’s at this game.
You can see the full benchmark at the website, and I’ve also made it so that you and your friends can play again the AIs: clocktowerbench.com

"It is sufficient to be one in order to know one, but there are ways to know one which do not require it" is frankly too many syllables.
