So, I spent last week in Germany with an international delegation of leaders from 18 countries for #Deutschlandtag 2026, the annual congress of the Junge Union, the youth organisation of the CDU/CSU.
Highlights:
✅ Visited Bonn, Cologne, Hürth and Düsseldorf
✅ Talked AI and disinformation at Deutsche Welle
✅ Toured the NRW State Parliament and met Minister-President Hendrik Wüst
✅ Had breakfast with members of the Bundestag
✅ Saw Chancellor Friedrich Merz at the congress
✅ Was chosen to speak on the main stage on behalf of our delegation
✅ Practised my rusty German (we managed 😄)
A proud week for me!
Thank you to the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, the Junge Union and my boss @bukolasaraki for making it possible. 🇳🇬🇩🇪

One of the lasting measures of leadership is the opportunities that we create for others.
Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s @KwankwasoRM commitment to education, particularly the opportunities he has provided for thousands of young Nigerians to study at home and abroad, remains an admirable legacy. Many of these young men and women are today making valuable contributions to our nation and beyond.
As he celebrates his 70th birthday, I join his family, friends and well-wishers in celebrating a life of public service.
I pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) continues to grant him good health, strength and wisdom in the years ahead.
Happy 70th birthday, my dear brother.

Mexican Dr¥g Cartels Are Turning Nigeria Into M+th Hub — US Warns
The United States has warned that Mexican dr¥g cartels are increasingly targeting Africa as an alternative route for tr@fficking synthetic dr¥gs, following the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency’s (NDLEA) dismantling of four m+thamphet@mine laboratories in Nigeria this year.
The US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs for Africa and the Middle East, Michael Gonzales, gave the warning on Tuesday during a visit to the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja.
Gonzales commended the agency for its counter-narcotics operations, describing its recent successes as evidence of effective intelligence gathering, inter-agency cooperation and coordinated enforcement efforts.
He explained that Nigeria’s strategic position and the NDLEA’s record of achievement informed his decision to make the country his first destination since assuming office four months ago.
According to the US official, increased American pressure on dr¥g cartels operating in the Western Hemisphere is pushing tr@ffickers to explore alternative routes through Africa to reach markets in Europe and other regions.
He likened the situation to “squeezing a balloon,” explaining that pressure on criminal networks in one region could force them to redirect their activities elsewhere.
Gonzales also warned that the growing shift from plant-based drugs to synthetic substances such as m+thamphet@mine presents additional challenges for law enforcement agencies because of their potential dangers and the difficulties involved in detecting them.
He stressed the need for countries to strengthen international cooperation and target criminal organisations as interconnected networks, including their financial operations.
In his response, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), said the agency’s recent operations had uncovered what he described as a deliberate attempt by Mexican drug cartels to establish Nigeria as a manufacturing base for methamphetamine.
