Kevin Garnett tells Tony Allen and Zach Randolph that a single open run he had with a group of NBA players including Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen made him realize he wasn't going to college and would instead enter the NBA straight from high school. He noted that making just one bucket during that run changed everything for him.

I remember asking assistant coach Mo Cheeks, what’s harder to do? Workout after practice or before?? I only asked cuz by time I would get to the gym, Russ was already done in the morning and I usually got mine in after practice. Mo like, “coming in before practice is probably harder”…since then, it’s been my routine….a lot of people looked at the emotions on the court and thought Russ was loud, nah to me, he was quiet and methodical. He lead by example and once the lights were bright, he let everything out and experienced pure freedom. It was inspiring as his teammate and everywhere I went, I seen it inspire people from all walks of life, crazy thing is, he didn’t say much, he just showed up. For 18 years. This basketball life is sacred to us as professionals, what we put into that court means everything. Some of us wish we could go back and do things with a little more intent and some can just wipe their hands and be satisfied with the time spent. Who u gonna be? We know what zero was on…keep inspiring in the next phase of life champ. I don’t care what happens, can’t erase what it was…The first YNs, finals run in our early 20s, all star games, seeing each other get injured and bounce back, the bus rides, plane rides, card games, jokes and arguments, the whole thing, memorable!! …to the whole Westbrook family, Nina, the kids, mama Westbrook, big Russ, Ray, Donnell, everybody from luezinger high and ucla and many more that I’m forgettin, much love and Congratulations on a iconic career.

Brad Underwood waited 26 years for a Div 1 head coaching job. Yes, he spent 26 years coaching high school, JUCO, and assisting.
At 49 years old he was hired to coach SF Austin. At 53 he was hired by Illinois. He finally reached the Final Four after turning 60.
The point: Sometimes if you truly want to be great you have to pay your dues. You have to stay the course and trust the process.
We want microwaved success so badly. There are 20-30 year olds mulling over quitting the profession because it isn’t happening fast enough. You gotta understand that a high level coaching career is earned, not given.
Congrats to Coach Underwood for sticking with the dream. He did what a lot can’t do: he waited. And he was rightfully rewarded.

I am extremely proud of our players and staff! We have battled so much adversity this season, and to play for a national championship is a reflection of their character, heart, and toughness. I have been blessed to coach several great teams throughout my career, but this team has captured my heart in the last two weeks. Nobody expected us to make the run that we did!
I have said this to many people… they love each other, they have great hearts, they are unselfish, and they are resilient as hell. I’m thankful to have coached every one of these guys!! This loss hurts but God blessed us tremendously. L’s up!

Tonight we play in the National Championship for the third time in five seasons. I couldn’t be more proud of our team!
Here’s to hoping the third time is a charm! #LsUp

This was a hard fought win against a very well-coached and tough team. There is a reason why Rocky had won 21 consecutive games and hadn’t lost in 2026.
I couldn’t be more proud of our guys toughness and heart. Another great opponent waits for us on Monday! #LsUp

Tonight we play @BattlinBears for a chance to go to the Fab 4.
@dannyneville3 has them playing great basketball! They are 31-3 and have won 21 games in a row. Today will be an absolute war!
Danny and I had the chance to work together last season, and I can’t be more thankful for what he did for me and our program! He’s an elite coach and an elite person. I love his family like they are my own.
We became friends playing in the Sweet 16, five years ago here in Kansas City. Today will be another chapter in an incredible friendship.

Gout Gout was at Ipswich Grammar School to play soccer. He had never trained as a sprinter. He was twelve years old, wearing sand shoes, and somebody told him to line up for a race at the school carnival.
The kid next to him was wearing spikes. He had won nationals.
Gout left him in the dust.
His classmate Tyson Walker was in the race too. "Everyone there stopped and watched," Walker recalled. "We had GPS athletics the next week and he broke every record and just didn't stop. He's just kept going faster."
A coach named Di Sheppard saw him run that day. She told him he could be an Olympic medalist. He later said it was the first time anyone had ever told him anything like that. He was twelve. He joined her squad and started training twice a week.
Here is where the story gets strange.
At 14 he ran 10.57 in the 100m, the fastest ever by an Australian under 16. At 15 he broke the national U18 200m record. At 16 he clocked 10.04 in a heat, then 10.17 legal in the final, then woke up the next morning and ran 20.04 in the 200m, breaking Peter Norman's Australian record from the 1968 Olympics. That record had stood for 56 years. Usain Bolt saw the footage, posted a photo, and wrote "He looks like young me."
The Bolt comparison is worth sitting with. Bolt didn't race 100 meters professionally until he was 21. His first professional 100m was 10.03. Gout Gout ran 10.00 flat at 18.
And his coach still only puts him in the gym two days a week. She's managing the fact that his body is still growing. The power phase of his development hasn't started. He is running these times on stride length and raw top-end speed alone.
His parents are Dinka, from South Sudan. They fled to Egypt, then to Australia, two years before he was born. Third of seven children. The family name was misspelled during transliteration from Arabic. It was supposed to be Guot. His father has been trying to change it back because "gout" is a disease name.
The kid kept running.
Brisbane 2032. Home Olympics. He'll be 24, the same age Bolt was when he set the 100m world record in Berlin. Adidas already signed him through that year.
The fastest man in Australian history started in sand shoes at a school carnival. Nobody told him to stop.
