Across the land, a great celebratory cry was heard. All new eARC dropped today! It's the next Chronicles of Hanuvar novel by @HowardAndrewJon -- "SHADOW OF THE SMOKING MOUNTAIN." HE WILL SET HIS PEOPLE FREE! He had crossed half a continent, venturing into the heartland of his enemies to wage a secret war of liberation! It almost seemed that the worst lay behind them. Hanuvar and his small band of allies had faced down warriors and horrors and sinister magics to free hundreds of their people from slavery. The emperor was dead and his successor had so little interest in finding Hanuvar he’d ordered his sorcerous revenants to cease their search and turn their sinister talents to other targets. But as Hanuvar shifted his efforts south, where hundreds of his people still labored under the Dervan yoke, other forces were advancing agendas of their own. Determined to prove Hanuvar still lived, the revenant legate secretly sought him with dark sorceries. A band of gladiators had rebelled and now wandered free, threatening the innocent and calling down the wrath of the legions. And upon the slopes of an ancient volcano, an ageless warrior mage worked to unleash a spell that would doom them all . . . Available in stores October 2024, you can grab the eARC NOW and not have to wait for the next chapter in this epic sword-and-sorcery series! #hanuvar You can find "SHADOW OF THE SMOKING MOUNTAIN" here -- baen.com/shadow-of-the-smoki…

INTO THE VORTEX by @cegannon1 - mass market paperback - BOOK TWO IN CHARLES E. GANNON’S VORTEX OF WORLDS EPIC FANTASY SERIES A little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing . . . but knowing the full truth might get you killed. Druadaen, Outrider for the once-mighty Dunarran Consentium, has proven that there are irreconcilable contradictions between magic and physics on Arrdanc, the world of his birth. And what is his reward for this important discovery, made against all odds and at considerable personal risk? Exile—organized and compelled by nervous temple hierarchs. However, Druadaen remains determined to uncover what several ancient persons and beings have urged him to seek: “the truth of the world”—which might only be gained by traveling beyond it. Indeed, the mysterious Lady of the Mirror speculates that he might find the answers by journeying to the other side of her unusual looking glass: a reflective, ethereal portal that she calls a “shimmer.” But there’s a catch: because the mysterious portal only allows a single person to pass through, Druadaen must leave his companions behind. Unfortunately, once he has, they discover that the “shimmer” only allows travelers to leave Arrdanc, not return to it. So his friends, led by stalwart swordsman Ahearn, resolve to find another means by which they can retrieve Druadaen—and with him, the truth of the world. There’s just one small problem with their quest: the closer they come to finding a solution, the more obvious it becomes that various powers on Arrdanc don’t want them to succeed. In fact, they’d rather Druadaen doesn’t return at all. So much so that they might kill both him and his friends in order to prevent it. /7 baen.com/into-the-vortex.htm…

More 40th anniversary shenanigans are afoot! Today we sat down with @HowardAndrewJon, author of the amazing Chronicles of Hanuvar! The first two books in the series, "LORD OF A SHATTERED LAND" and "THE CITY OF MARBLE AND BLOOD" are both currently available wherever Baen books are sold, and the next installment in the series, "SHADOW OF THE SMOKING MOUNTAIN," is coming this October! "I’m sure I read earlier Baen books, back before I was paying attention to anything but writer and title, but the first I definitely remember reading was from the David Drake edited Robert E. Howard library," he responded. "A friend had sent me an extra copy he’d accidentally picked up of Volume V, Eons of the Night, with an introduction from S.M. Stirling." When asked about his most recent Baen title, his answer was almost immediate. "My most recent Baen read is D.J. Butler’s "BETWEEN PRINCESSES AND OTHER JOBS.""
