@grantcohn Here is the scenario Grand Final 2:30pm Australian time 12:30 am ET 11:30pm CT 10:30pm MT 9:30pm PT. Media heavies in a couple of years are pushing for the GF to be 2 hours later and eventually night so hardly anyone in the US will see it

What they should do Play the 2nd prelim final 12:30 pm East Adelaide or west so it’s close when other prelim was played If played on east coast Australia . Games would be 2 hours earlier than the Grand Final . AFL should pay to have it on FS1 and promote the hell out of it.

The following year the AFL pay for a superbowl ad that regular AFL games will be on FS1 and put Australian games on in Brisbane Sydney Melbourne and Tasmania at 12:30 pm on a Sunday for that Fox sports 1 game . Those games will be on at 10:30pm ET to 7:30 PT US time. Thoughts?

Queensland's two AFL clubs are set to do battle this afternoon — and the sport has broken through in a way it could only have dreamt of a decade ago. Here's how participation grew bigger than 'heartland' Aussie rules states South Australia and WA 👉 bit.ly/4x15gXD

Long before colonial cricketers claimed they invented Australian Rules football in 1858 to keep fit during winter, Indigenous Australians were already launching themselves meters into the air to catch a stuffed possum-skin ball. The traditional game of Marn Grook featured no offside rules, no rigid boundary lines, and an aerial marking style that baffled European observers. Colonial committees essentially slapped a whistle and a scoreboard onto an ancient, soaring ceremonial ritual. Are you rocking this for the unmatched beauty of the speccy mark or because you know footy was born on sacred ground? redbubble.com/shop/ap/182683… In historical anthropology and sports sociology, researchers like Jim Poulter and Martin Flanagan have documented how the unique verticality of Australian Rules football descends directly from Marn Grook, a traditional game played for millennia across western Victoria by the Gunditjmara and Djabwurrung nations. When Tom Wills codified the first official Melbourne rules in 1858, his childhood spent playing alongside Djabwurrung youths provided the unmistakable blueprint: drop-punting an oval sphere of charcoal-stuffed marsupial hide and leaping atop opponents' shoulders in spectacular aerial contests. Framing the iconic footy oval in traditional dot-work topography, ceremonial trackways, and cross-hatched borders transforms a modern sports obsession back into its true ancestral landscape—a game that existed to defy gravity and bring rival mobs together long before stadium turnstiles ever turned.
