Only a guaranteed livable basic income provides true security. Universal basic income is the future of freedom.
there is absolutely zero "job security" in a standard paycheck. you are quite literally one bad quarter, one new AI tool, or one grumpy executive away from having your entire livelihood completely erased.

Rien.

Send them a $1,300 check every month and tell them America is so great it's issuing a regular dividend to citizens now just like our greatest corporations do.
MAGAs hate handouts but can't wait for their imaginary $5,000 checks.

UBI isn't the only answer to AI job losses. It's the floor everything else stands on. Hinton calls it "a good start." Amodei says tax AI companies to fund it. We agree.

So let met get that straight: paying a wealth tax is impossible (“billionaires have no liquidity”, “it would be taxing unrealized gains”, “their wealth is virtual”) but paying half a billion to influence elections is possible. Did I understand well?
Elon Musk has cemented his record as the largest individual political donor in modern American history. Musk poured $446 million of his own money into this year’s midterm elections, mostly aimed at preserving the Republican Party’s control of Congress. wapo.st/4igb5Kq

#BGE-Bewegung."

AI agents left to explore a virtual island without a specific task began inventing challenges of their own, and MIT researchers say the behavior bears the hallmarks of play. 13 AI agents called Eko, each running on Claude Opus 4.7, were left alone on a simulated desert island for 30 hours. They started creating their own challenges and that "play" even enabled them to be better at tasks given later. “We normally develop artificial agents by deciding in advance what they should practice, what they should optimize, and what counts as progress,” the researchers write in their report. “Play suggests another regime: give an agent a sufficiently rich and safe world, let it choose what is interesting, and allow useful knowledge to accumulate from the history that follows.” If agents can figure out stuff to do if not given a task, I'm pretty sure humans can figure it out too. All of this "But what will people do if they don't need to work for someone else in order to eat?" is just nonsense. If people aren't forced into jobbing in order to survive, that does not mean the end of all work or challenges in the pursuit of meaning. It is so natural to come up with new challenges that even agents do it. Humans with unconditional basic income are going to be more than okay. Stop with the end of meaning crap. Also, play is clearly valuable in learning skills. So stop shitting on playing games as not having any value. techcrunch.com/2026/10/22/le…

WOW. New SEC filing: Zuckerberg is preparing to pay California’s billionaire tax, AND has signed an agreement to stay in the state for 8 years. Two myths down: no, billionaires won’t all flee, and yes, they can pay their fair share without losing their companies. Just 12 days left to win this! Holy shit this could be historic.
This is huge. A just-released SEC filing makes an extraordinary revelation: Mark Zuckerberg is getting ready to pay California’s 5% billionaire wealth tax and has signed an agreement to remain in California for 8 years. We are witnessing a global turning point unfold before our eyes. 🧵

Share this post as widely as possible. No matter where you live, this referendum affects you. Thank you all so much. To my friends in California: the whole world is watching. YES on Prop 40. NO on Props 41 and 42. The forces of democracy will prevail over the forces of oligarchy.

We have just 12 days left to win a historic victory. The clock is ticking. California's billionaires have poured $300 million into a massive disinformation campaign designed to deceive voters and mislead the public. To counter it, I need your help. xitter.cf/gabriel_zucman/status/…
As voting begins today, the world needs to know what Silicon Valley billionaires are doing to sabotage the billionaire tax now on the ballot in California. This is shocking. 🧵

California voters are dismantling, one by one, the excuses billionaires around the world — from @BernardArnault to Jim Ratcliffe to @MartinLorentzon long used to avoid paying taxes. The arrangement @Meta has just made for Zuckerberg shows, for example, that the supposed issues of “losing control” billionaires constantly invoke is a smokescreen.

California's referendum is a major political battle—arguably one of the most consequential issues in this year's U.S. midterm elections. California voters have the opportunity to spark a much broader movement to end billionaire impunity, both in the United States and around the world. They can send a powerful message to the billionaires pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into ads designed to manipulate voters and sow confusion: No. Not everything is for sale.

In the United States, extreme wealth has reached levels never seen before—not even during the Gilded Age of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This is the concentration of wealth we must confront. Because extreme wealth always comes with extreme power: the power to crush competition, manipulate public debate, shape public policy, and buy elections.

A one-time 5% wealth tax would merely bring Silicon Valley billionaires' fortunes back to where they stood just a few weeks ago, at the beginning of September. Back when their wealth was "only" 178% higher than on January 1, 2023. They would rather see 3 million people lose their health insurance than allow that to happen.
