This congestion was entirely predictable, but Transport for London are totally incompetent. At very least they should have removed obstacles and traffic lights to increase capacity on alternatives to Oxford Street.
The traffic on Wigmore St on Day 1 of pedestrianised Oxford St 😬

The funniest thing about the reaction to my Oxford Street post is I'm not against pedestrianisation. Done right it can make spaces that are fantastic. Just that we're seeing the focus on antiterrorism with legally required access being sidelined.

3 hours so far of being harmed outside the LTNs …. It does not evaporate…. The closets hospital here has London’s most patients with breathing difficulties. The hospital is surrounded by LTNs in all boroughs. LTNs are killing us for a hobby … @PGCommunity @BetterSt4Enf @JourneysPlaces

Exclusive from @benclatworthy Britain is holding talks with the EU about a potential return to free movement and other options for closer alignment The Times has been told that the UK is discussing a series of options about the future relationship which are due to be unveiled within weeks Andy Burnham plans to set out his vision for closer ties with the bloc, including the potential of rejoining the union, and have a “conversation with the British public about our long-term future” The options that will be presented are being discussed with officials in Brussels to ensure both sides would ultimately be able to agree One source said all such routes would be “discussed using diplomatic channels” before any “big bang” launch of the options on the table thetimes.com/article/4ef6707…

One of the many cyclists who were ignoring the marshals and the signs and riding around in Oxford Street this evening. He came up to us as I was about to do an interview for @itvlondon He is with illuminati, so he can do as he likes, apparently.

Prices up. Energy bills up. Mortgages up. The country’s tax burden and borrowing at record highs. I love a good gherkin, but the government’s response is not equal to the scale of the challenges.

A modest request to HM Government: if we have to have an 'active travel commissioner' can we please make it a pedestrian next time, rather than an Olympic cyclist? In the past five years the number of fines issued by police forces to cyclists fell from 6,000 to 3,660. Some police forces last year failed to fine a single cyclist, while just ten were fined in the whole of Devon and Cornwall. But even this, apparently, is still too much for Chris Boardman, the current holder of the above post and a former gold medallist on his bike. While acknowledging that cyclists ought to stop at red lights, he adds, in a letter to the Times, 'We need to distinguish between behaviour that irritates us and behaviour that puts lives at greatest risk. Someone on a bike and someone driving a two tonne vehicle do not pose the same potential risk. That does not excuse either breaking the law, but it should inform where we put our limited enforcement resources.' ✍️ Ross Clark Article | spectator.com/article/we-nee… | @RossjournoClark
