Just remember when fans and players say owners are cheap. There are TONS of awful contracts like this around MLB.
I tried to get my son into baseball back in his Tball and Coach pitch days. Even in Rec, you have travel teams that just dominate and discourage other kids from playing.
On top of that, Baseball has a culture problem. This “let the kids play” narrative of bat flipping and acting a fool after every play on the field, leaks out off the field. Travel ball kids are some of the worst behaved kids I’ve met in public in my area. Loud, obnoxious, and disrespectful.
Seems pretty easy. Crane just needs to ask Bagwell what he would do, or hire, and do the complete opposite.
Over those 9 years, how many times have these teams made it to the WS? Not counting the fake year 2020. This is it. Of those 9 years, they’ve been getting spanked by the big market teams.
Yes, both teams are great at developing a roster full of above average players with a star player here and there. But, they eventually have to unload their top tier talent and start process all over again.
Those low payroll teams have small contention windows. Those windows close when their homegrown talent gets poached by the bigger clubs to keep their windows going forever. Hope this helps.
Yup! Their star players are going to look great in Dodger Blue or Yankee pinstripes in a few years and back to the cellar!
