Three UN reports on the human rights situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran have been published in recent weeks.  The the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission’s report concludes that the crackdown by Iranian authorities on the Dec 2025- Jan2026 protests amount to crimes against humanity of murder, imprisonment, torture and other inhumane acts. It also finds reasonable grounds to believe that the US committed the war crime of launching an indiscriminate attack, both in striking a primary school in Minab and in using a wide-dispersal munition over a sports centre and homes in Lamerd. ohchr.org/sites/default/file…   The Secretary-General’s report covers August 2025 to May 2026. It shows how the authorities invoked national security to expand executions amid serious fair-trial concerns, carry out mass arrests and impose internet shutdowns. Sanctions, the hostilities and the shutdown compounded pre-existing socioeconomic hardship and further undermined the enjoyment of socioeconomic rights. Its recommendations include structural change: reform at the legislative and constitutional level and a moratorium on the death penalty. It urged Member States to end the hostilities, to integrate human rights into their diplomatic and economic engagement with Iran. ohchr.org/en/documents/count…   My report is organised around impacts: the killed and executed; the detained and missing; those who defend, document and mobilise; livelihoods; and the environment. In each, the external and internal sources of harm converge. Warnings of incoming strikes were posted to social media that the authorities’ own shutdown had made unreachable, and prisoners were reportedly locked in as the strikes fell. The war did not loosen the repression; it tightened it: protesters were recast as agents of the attacking States, and executions continued throughout. The burden fell hardest on those already at the margins. My recommendations are accordingly addressed to all parties: Iran, the US and Israel, and all States. ohchr.org/en/documents/count…   The common thread is impunity. I know of no investigation by the Iranian authorities into the killings by their forces, and the US and Israel have published no findings on their strikes. When those responsible will not investigate themselves, independent documentation is what stands between the victims and erasure. These reports, built on the work of survivors, families and civil society, are that record, and accountability will one day depend on it. Until then, the reports converge on what must happen now: end the hostilities through diplomacy, with human rights at the heart of any agreement; halt executions; release those detained for exercising their rights; investigate every death independently; and grant UN mechanisms access.

Iran appointed Dadkhoda Salari as Kerman’s judiciary chief on Oct. 20, despite a record linked to executions, including Arman Bahr Asemani, executed at 16 for an alleged offense committed as a child. His appointment raises urgent concerns about impunity. iran-hrm.com/2026/10/23/iran…

Iranian authorities are punishing the family of executed PMOI member Babak Alipour. His father, Ali, was arrested on Oct. 20; his brother Rouzbeh has been detained for 9 months. The family was denied Babak’s body and still does not know where he is buried.
Iran has executed two more political prisoners linked to the PMOI (MEK), Babak Alipour (34) and Pouya Ghobadi (33), one day after the executions of Mohammad Taghavi and Ali Akbar Daneshvarkar. Sentenced in grossly unfair trials by Branch 26 under judge Iman Afshari, their deaths reflect Iran’s escalating use of executions to crush dissent. Vahid Baniamerian and Abolhassan Montazer are now at imminent risk. Urgent international action is needed. #StopExecutionsInIran

URGENT: Iran’s Supreme Court has upheld political prisoner Manouchehr Fallah’s death sentence for PMOI membership. His case is with the verdict implementation office in Rasht, putting him at imminent risk of execution. @UN must act now. #StopExecutionsInIran
A father's final words to his 16-year-old daughter: "Assal, on the eve of your birthday, the judge sentenced me to death, perhaps hoping to break me. But silence in the face of oppression is an unforgivable sin..." - Manouchehr Fallah awaits execution for seeking justice. #StopExecutionsInIran iran-hrm.com/2025/02/12/a-le…

#StopExecutionsInIran #NoToExecutionsTuesdays These are some faces of Political prisoners on death row. Among them are Amir-Hassan Akbari-Monfared (23 years old), Arghavan Fallahi (25 years old), Mohammad-Javad Vafaie Sani (30 years old, a boxing champion and coach), and Zahra Tabari (68 years old). Like in 1988, they are accused of "waging war on God" - not for actually doing anything, but simply for maintaining their political beliefs.

Stop executions in Iran

Standing in solidarity with political prisoners in #Iran on this #NoToExecutionTuesday and every day. Thank you to @SRfreedex_LMG and all those taking action on behalf of the brave Iranian people, who remain steadfast in the face of mass persecution, prosecution, and execution in an attempt by the regime to silence dissent. The international community must employ every legal, diplomatic, and economic instrument at its disposal to protect all political prisoners in Iran and to support their human rights and democratic aspirations.
I have begun my solidarity action in support of political prisoners in Iran and those participating in #NoToExecutionTuesdays #hungerstrike I stand with those facing persecution for their political opinions, expression and peaceful dissent, and reiterate my call for an immediate halt to executions. #StopExecutionsInIran

Appreciate the call by @UN expert Gina and her colleagues urging Iran to stop executing political prisoners. Public attention must be paid to the brutal Iranian regime's ongoing human rights violations despite the geopolitical challenges. #stopexecution

At least 46 political prisoners executed since March this year. Iran goes about its barbarity daily, against its own people.
I am joining a solidarity action with political prisoners in Iran participating in #NoToExecutionTuesdays. At 12 am Iran time, I'm going to start a 24-hour #hungerstrike #Iran #stopexecutions #abolishdeathpenalty The scale of Iran’s use of the death penalty for political reasons is alarming. Amnesty International recorded at least 2,159 executions in 2025, the highest annual figure it has recorded in the country since 1981. In 2026, at least 34 people have been executed in connection with the January protests, including five in just one week between 30 September and 5 October. Information I have received also reveals a particularly troubling dimension for my mandate. At least 46 political prisoners and protesters reportedly executed since 19 March 2026: 37 arrested during protests and nine targeted in connection with alleged opposition affiliation. More than 100 others are reportedly on death row. Offences such as baghi (armed rebellion), moharebeh (enmity against god) and efsad-e fel-arz (corruption on earth) are being used in cases where protest, political expression and alleged opposition affiliation are intertwined with capital charges. History makes these warning signs impossible to ignore. In 1988, around 30,000 political prisoners were executed or forcibly disappeared in one of the darkest chapters of Iran’s recent history. Former UN Special Rapporteur Javaid Rehman subsequently concluded that the summary, arbitrary and extrajudicial executions and enforced disappearances amounted to crimes against humanity. Iran must immediately halt executions, commute death sentences, review cases that fail to meet fair-trial standards and investigate allegations of torture. Political opinion, criticism, peaceful protest and association must never become capital offences.

I support the #NoToExecutionTuesdays campaign. On 20 Oct the Iranian prisoners’ campaign marks its 143rd consecutive week. UN Special Rapporteur Léopoldo Maldonado joins tomorrow with a 24-hour hunger strike following Gina Romero last week. Stand with them. End the executions.
