The High Court in Siaya has stopped Sunday's FKF National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
The meeting, scheduled for Sunday, 8 November 2026, at Weston Hotel in Nairobi, had the following agenda:

How does Nairobi United, a team with just two titles, Division one trophy and Federation Cup victory, land a staggering Kshs 380,000,000 million sponsorship from a betting firm under Kenya Revenue Authority investigations for fraud and tax evasion?
What business is SportyBet doing with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja that is worth Ksh. 126m per season in sponsored deal with Nairobi United?
What optics are these? Is Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja just laundering money through SportyBet Kenya and Nairobi United though his foundation?
How profitable is SportyBet Kenya that is can afford a staggering individual club shirt-sponsorship contract in Kenyan Premier League (KPL) historyโeven surpassing what title sponsors like SportPesa distribute to the ENTIRE LEAGUE ANNUALLY?
Where is the Kenya Premier League "Financial Fair Play" policy? As much as this suspicious deal injects the much-needed liquidity into Kenyan football, it stinks of massive corruption and money laundering. Nairobi United is currently winless after five rounds of the 2026/27 season and this deal attempts to offer a marketing and brand mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to a club whose book and commercial value is unknown. SportyBet Kenya is basically attempting to brand Nairobi United as a high-value outfit, worthy of a multimillion shillings investment and urging other sponsors to raise their financial stakes across the league.
President William Ruto recently confirmed co-ownership of the team, through his son's investment arm, by boosting the club's liquidity through a KSh 10 million personal investment. Additionally, the team also has a front-of-shirt partnership with Hass Petroleum reportedly valued near KSh 100 million per season.
Does this axis of William Ruto and Johnson Sakaja explain a record-shattering KSh 380 million, three-year deal that redefines the financial landscape of local club footbal?

Is this legitimate sponsorship or just money laundering in sports?
Nairobi United was acquired by the Sakaja Johnson Foundation in September 2024. Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja owns the team in effect. Since its takeover, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has poured money into this "moneybags" outfit. The Fairytale Double Campaign (2024/2025) saw them win the National Super League and FKF Cup, qualifying for the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup.
Nairobi City County recently faced accusations of intimidating and demanding bribes and kickbacks from betting firms in order to "regulate the multi-billion shilling betting market".
In June 2026, the EACC arrested Patrick Analo Akivaga, the Nairobi County Chief Officer for Urban Development and Planning. Detectives recovered KES 65.3 million in cash stashed in briefcases at his premises. He is being investigated for abuse of office, bribery, and accumulating unexplained wealth far beyond his official salary. Investigations allege that part of the loot was acquired from betting and advertising firms in Nairobi.
Recently, Kenya Revenue Authority pursued a staggering Sh5 billion tax demand, telling the to court to freeze funds held by the betting firm SportyBet, accusing SportyBet Kenya of under-declaring its income between 2018 and 2021. KRA argued in court that SportyBet had no known physical assets in the country other than funds held in Safaricom Paybill numbers and six commercial banks, raising fears that the money could be moved out of Kenya before the tax dispute was resolved.
