It’s Friday, the 23rd of October. Here are this week’s top headlines:
📌Daylight saving time is ending, and trading hours are changing. Europe switches to winter time on 26 October, followed by the US on 2 November. As a result, US stocks and ETFs will open and close one hour later on EET. Trading hours for currencies and metals will also shift, while JSE-listed instruments and crypto remain unchanged.
📌 $META has announced a new non-voting share class, Class C, which it plans to list on Nasdaq. Its board has declared a one-time stock dividend of one Class C share for every Class A and Class B share. Meta says that date is 19 January 2027, and it will set the payment date later. The dividend must be paid within five business days of the proposed date.
📌Amazon $AMZN shares jumped nearly 5% this week after Morgan Stanley named the company a top pick and lifted its target to $350 from $335.
📌Nedbank has completed its acquisition of a 66% stake in NCBA, a leading Tier 1 banking group offering a full range of financial services. NCBA operates mainly in Kenya, with a presence in Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Côte d’Ivoire.
📌Reuters reports OpenAI is racing to secure about $30 billion before solana:Pren1FvFX6J3E4kXhJuCiAD5aDmGEb7qJRncwA8Lkhw lists. The round could value the ChatGPT maker at over $1.4 trillion, according to people familiar with the matter.
Trade these updates before the markets close, and explore the OpenAI USDT-linked assets, and similar, over the weekend.

To demonstrate the dodgy relationship between the DA and News24, the DA produces a poll that does not account for 21% of the electorate and leaves ActionSA. News24 publishes without asking questions.

Guys here is a wild question!
Would you guys support South Africa developing a nuclear weapon as means to defend itself with the raise of international conflicts happening now?

Congratulations Lula 🇧🇷 The People of Brazil are Safe and Democracy is protected!
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva came from behind to win Brazil’s runoff election, halting a right-wing wave sweeping Latin America and defying predictions that the 80-year-old political veteran had finally reached the end of his extraordinary career. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

You can always tell when a company issues pretty dire results as the main key pieces of information are hidden away inside the release
So it was with the H1 2026 results from $JSEAFT Afrimat
HEPS plunged to a loss of 58 cents per share down -156.9%
No dividend paid
However, much of the results narrative was as expected and has been well articulated at the July 29th AGM and August 25th business update. There were few surprises to @smalltalkdaily
Afrimat snap
I’m off to results at 12H00 & have the first post results management meeting
On results, iron ore - as written & expected - collapsed in H1 for all reasons I articulated in recent notes.
Operating profits of R8.5m, a slide of -98%. That’s why my follow on quip on Arcelor Mittal posted last night here on X is very interesting looking forward
Cement’s loss of R146m again as expected & was R15m worse than I envisioned
4% reduction in debt is negligible in scheme of things & we await sale of cement to slash debt hard likely into Q1 2027
#AFT recovered nicely since @smalltalkdaily Aug 13th 2696c & Aug 25th 26O5c speculative buy notes - target 🎯 remains 3800c & 4200c
Stock at 3400 cents is +28% since my recommendations in August
The “silver bullets” I’ve written on - that now also includes IDC - are all to play for in coming months
1. Sale of cement
2. Debt reduction
3. Increased Transnet iron ore export line allocation
4. De-risking from Arcelor Mittal
I expect iron ore to still have an awful H2 due to pricing but into 2027 if #AFT gains the extra export line tonnage as I’ve written on - that will be a winner. That news should come in December
Otherwise today’s results as I’ve written on since the July 29th AGM & onwards is much to expectation
