There are venues who charge 20% without even providing someone to work the merch table. Artists not only rely on merch profit to help make up for the streaming fiasco, but they also pay for the merch's design, production, shipping, etc.
Many music fans don’t know that venues typically take a cut from artist’s merch sales, or why/how the predatory and inequitable practice has become so normalized.. so I broke it all down for @Talkhouse.. and offer a simple solution for the music industry.

I'm thinking of the MS St Louis today, when in June 1939, Canada denied entry to over 900 Jews and turned them back to Europe where over a quarter of them died in the Holocaust.
It sickens me that they were denied entry while 2000 Ukrainian members of the SS faced no issue.

this cruelty only makes sense as a policy if you are assuming that
1) there are plentiful, effective treatment programs / resources in SF
and
2) you think unhoused people just need to be forced into compliance and don’t have legitimate grievances
