Can you imagine seeing early career professional ornithologists and science communicators work their butts off to make ornithology and birding more welcoming and diverse… then deride their efforts by name in a major international conference abstract and talk? #BirdNamesForBirds

I’m thrilled to share that I am joining @ABCbirds as the Managing Editor of its member magazine, Bird Conservation! When my previous magazine, @BirdWatchDaily, closed recently, I could not have imagined that I’d be lucky enough to edit another terrific bird magazine... 3/3

Apropos of nothing, the #progressive idea of eliminating #eponymous names for wild things dates back to at least 1799. #Peale #BN4B #BirdNamesforBirds
"We could decide right now that the words we use matter, and that birds should carry their own history, not ours." @birdnirdfoley and I wrote an oped for @washingtonpost about why it's time we acknowledge these verbal statues and need #BirdNamesForBirds. washingtonpost.com/opinions/…
