I wrote for @NYULawDemProjct about how we can restore trust in elections. Voters are already telling us where to start: with the state and local officials who run our elections. When people trust the process, and know their vote will count, they show up. bit.ly/4xZUgtg

The president just pushed out the remaining members of the Election Assistance Commission, a bipartisan, independent agency that supports states in running secure elections. This is another attempt to grab power over elections, but the EAC doesn't run elections. States do.

Congress created the EAC to be independent and bipartisan on purpose. Removing every commissioner doesn't give the president control over elections. It just sidelines a resource for the states that actually run them. npr.org/2026/07/09/nx-s1-588…

Birthright citizenship is the law of the land. The president's executive order was unconstitutional.
Today, SCOTUS affirmed what's been true for more than 150 years: the 14th Amendment guarantees citizenship to children born on American soil. statesunited.org/press-relea…

The Slaughter decision makes it far easier to turn independent agencies toward partisan ends & demand loyalty as the price of public service. Congress envisioned a check on executive power that no longer exists for most places apart from the Federal Reserve.
Breaking News: The Supreme Court ruled to expand President Trump’s power to fire independent regulators but carved out on exception for the Federal Reserve, preventing the president from immediately removing Lisa Cook from the central bank. nyti.ms/4bj008H

States run elections in this country—and today the Supreme Court reaffirmed it. SCOTUS upheld state laws establishing grace periods for mail ballots. State and local officials know what policies work best for their voters. statesunited.org/press-relea…

On #NationalNursesDay, and every day, we thank the brave nurses who keep us safe. Nurses stand on the frontline, risking their own health and safety, to protect New Yorkers. We are forever grateful for everything they do.

What an honor to join Marie Claire magazine’s 2026 list of "Power Moms” making a difference for women and children! When we empower women by helping them with child care everyone wins — young children get the attention and early education they need and deserve, moms can choose to return to the workforce or continue their education and our economy gets stronger. Thanks to Mika and my friends at Morning Joe for highlighting New Mexico’s universal child care initiative and the collaboration by Marie Claire and Power Moms that honor hardworking women who contribute so much to our society. Lies about our elections are still a loyalty test for Trump—we expect to see that throughout this cycle. Given how much is at stake this year, tracking Election Deniers is essential to defending democracy in 2026. @SUAction is doing just that. npr.org/2026/05/04/nx-s1-580…

Justice Kagan said it herself in her dissent: the Voting Rights Act is now “all but a dead letter.” States can now dilute the voting power of racial minorities through gerrymandering, as long as they call it “partisanship” instead of racism. They’re dismantling equal participation in democracy in plain sight. Vote like your rights depend on it. Because they do.

The Constitution gives states—not the federal government—the power to run elections. That safeguard is by design. It means no one person can control the system. As @JLydgate put it, "Trump can’t do everything, everywhere, all at once.” wbur.org/news/2026/04/26/mas…
