Most people think once the spiral starts, you’re just along for the ride.
But the spiral is not in charge of you. You are in charge of the spiral.
I’ve spent three decades watching what actually changes a brain under pressure, and I’ve had to stop my own spirals more times than I can count.
Here are the top four things I've learned that help when my thoughts start spiraling:
1. This thought is not me.
The moment you say that out loud, you create distance.
Your brain can’t keep running the same loop at full speed once you refuse to fuse with it.
2. Most of what I’m thinking right now is not true.
Neuroscience is clear: the large majority of automatic thoughts in a spiral are distortions.
You don’t have to debate every one. You just have to stop treating them as facts.
3. I can choose a different command.
Your mind decides. Your brain follows.
One spoken sentence is enough to start redirecting the circuitry.
4. One true sentence is enough to start.
Don’t try to fix the whole spiral. Just pick one true sentence, scripture, a fact, or a simple command, and say it out loud.
That’s the incision. Everything else follows from there.
This isn’t positive thinking.
It’s taking the thought captive and giving your brain a different command.
Romans 12:2 has been saying this longer than neuroscience has.

Why you should vote Republican.
My biggest concern is that if there is a clean sweep by Democrats of the House, Senate and Presidency in 2028, they will:
1. Make DC and Puerto Rico states to gain a strong majority in the Senate.
2. Open the borders and legalize everyone living in America illegally to cement a permanent majority.
3. Increase the size of the Supreme Court to gain an immediate majority.
This would result in America becoming a permanent one-party state and the end of democracy in any meaningful sense of the word.
All that is needed to ensure this doesn’t happen is 51 Republican senators in 2029. That is why you should vote for Republican senators this election. Other reasons are irrelevant compared to this one.

You're not overreacting. Your body is responding to a moment from twenty years ago.

But the past isn't only stored as a memory. It's stored as a brace: a held breath, a clenched jaw, shoulders that never come down.
You can't talk a body out of bracing. You can show it that it's safe now.
Look around the room and name three things you see.
Let your teeth part and your tongue rest on the roof of your mouth.
Breathe in for 4 and out for 6.
When the old feeling comes, put a hand on your chest and stay for 90 seconds.
You were never broken. You were braced.
Nothing is found on the outside. The kingdom is within you.
