It is through the interdependence of local churches that Christian unity is beautifully displayed, relationships are enjoyed, congregations are protected, and the message of the gospel advances in power. @JMellinger | SGJ | Churches in Partnership

“The Winner Theology promoted in this book does not square with Scripture’s vision for true ‘victory’ for those in Christ.” I am grateful for the good work that continues to be done by @TGC in articles like this.

The critics of complementarianism are increasing on both sides. But decades later, I still love Danvers Complementarianism. It is sturdy enough to hold the line, and to guard against distortions in both directions.
Complementarianism was supposed to settle the question of women in the church. It didn’t. Now, the drift toward egalitarianism and feminism in the church has only accelerated. Some churches say they are complementarian but adopt the posture that “a woman may do anything a non-ordained man may do.” May a woman preach on Mother’s Day “under the authority” of the elders? What about teaching a Sunday school class or leading a small group? May a woman serve as a deacon? What about the growing number of women enrolled in seminaries? Drawing from years of experience helping their own churches navigate these issues, pastors D. @dmichaelclary) and Zachary M. Garris (@ZacharyGarris) argue that mainstream complementarianism was never sturdy enough to hold the line. They wrote this book to give the church something firmer. The more we sense and accept our difference from the world, the greater our influence will be. The more we allow the secular society to affect us, morally and spiritually, the more we lose our saltiness. @dandoriani

Sinclair Ferguson warns ministers against an "oppositional tone" in preaching, where the pastor preaches in an "attack mode" and is "coming down upon the people instead of bringing them up to the Lord Jesus Christ." He says there is a way in which men can even preach the great indicative truths of the Scriptures in an imperative tone because of the preacher's affections. Sinclair includes this great line that the people need to hear that "the only interest Jesus has in their sin is to get rid of it." Really convicting stuff here for preachers.

One more reason to love churches partnering together for Christ. 🙌 This is beautiful.
Those are my friends Dan & Jodie Birkholz. Dan was installed as an elder and Sr. Pastor of Cross of Grace Church in Chaska, MN this morning. It was a happy, Christ-exalting day.

For every pastor who makes headlines for hypocrisy, abuse of power, or celebrity-driven ministry, there are hundreds of humble, godly pastors faithfully serving their churches week after week. Social media is not representative of reality.

It was a joy to write this article for @TGC. Spurgeon published more words in English than any Christian to date. So where on earth does one start? I offer some recommendations here. Start Here: A Beginner's Guide to Reading Charles H. Spurgeon thegospelcoalition.org/revie…

I am increasingly grateful to God for those who finish well.
Oh, to finish like Paul! “I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:6–8

Still important and timely.
1. 🧵This substantial essay from Kevin DeYoung on Doug Wilson and "the Moscow mood" is excellent. I'm tempted to say: drop everything to go and read. I hope it will be taken seriously by those who admire and seek to emulate the Moscow mood. clearlyreformed.org/on-cultu…
