"Most people understand that you shouldn’t spend more than you make. But many independent school districts (ISDs) don’t seem to have gotten the message." #txlege #txed @TPPF thecannononline.com/is-it-ti…
Taxpayers Beware!
Liberal local govts. are already scheming to erode this session's $10B tax cut 🫣 Higher tax bills loom thanks to rate hikes, "disaster" pennies, bond elections, and more.
Time to get active and tell your local elected officials - No New Taxes!! #txlege @TPPF
Just finished an interview on @ktrhnews 740 AM about how tax-and-spend Fort Bend ISD has become! They are going to use last year’s Hurricane Beryl to raise the @FortBendISD property tax rate by 7 “disaster” pennies, which is the same “tax and spend” nonsense @HarrisCoJudge Lina Hildago used that the TX Legislature passed a law to stop but wait, there’s more!
Their Superintendent and CFO say they’ll spend it on teacher salaries, despite the State of Texas literally shoveling $8.5 billion into public schools statewide, with the majority of the money going for teacher raises!
What’s really going on is part of our $10 billion in property tax relief is cutting the School ISD M&O rate by 6 pennies, so just like in 2023, FBISD is trying to sponge up the property tax cut, even though it’s unnecessary in the extreme! Read it now: houstonchronicle.com/neighbo…
The FBISD trustees should just say NO to Superintendent White and CFO Guinn’s one-year-only “smash and grab” of $35 million dollars from district taxpayers! It will cost homesteads $150 and wipe out any property tax relief on the way for commercial real estate owners!
The FBISD board still has to approve next year’s property tax rate, so all home and business owners should tell them NO! Just tell all @FortBendISD trustees to say NO to a falsetto 7-penny “disaster” property tax rate increase—period!
Our new law, HB 30 (Rep @EllenTroxclair), that stops taxing units from doing this without actual @fema expenses, starts next year, so this is the last ride of an @tasbnews “Avarice” ISD, I hope!

It had a flaw in it. I put it on the special session to fix it.

🔎💰How much money is dedicated in the State of Texas Budget for Property Tax Relief, really?💰🔎
✅That’s spelled out in the SB1 budget by Article III, TEA Rider 76 (pg. 281 of the document). Section (a) says we have provided $51 billion of new tax relief and to maintain tax relief since the 86th Regular Session and the passage of HB 3, which I was a co-sponsor of in 2019.
✅That means actually $51 billion is being used to cut your school property tax bills, just like Gov. @GregAbbott_TX said at this week’s bill signing ceremony for SB 4 & 23, and HB 9 by Chairman @MorganMeyerTX exemption increases! 📉🏡 💼
✅ Section (b) says $3.5 billion is maintaining my SB 2 and HJR 2 from the 88th Second Session in 2023. But why? Originally, as I have repeatedly said this year, 2023’s SB 2 and HJR 2’s property tax relief was budgeted at $18 billion, but came in much higher at $22.7 billion—which was literally, 😂🌍 a world-record property tax cut!
📊 So, the #txlege leadership of both Lt. Gov. @DanPatrick and Speaker @Burrows4TX is really pouring on $10 billion more in property tax relief, and this $3.5 billion is to maintain what the voters approved in 2023 plus $6.5 billion more if the voters approve in November, the higher homestead and business BPP exemptions! 🏠🏢📈
💸 The result will be:
• $484/yr ISD tax bill cut for all 5.7 million homesteads
• $907/yr for 2.1 million seniors & disabled homeowners PLUS
• $2,500 for businesses w/BPP as
🧾 All Texas property taxpayers can get up to 6 pennies off their ISD M&O property tax rate! 💪📉
🎉 Everyone’s in on this $10 billion, and we’ll see what the voters say in November!! 🗳️-PB

The Texas Senate should vote "NO" on #HB2512, which will trap people in the ETJ. This bill is undemocratic and un-Texan. #txlege @TPPF
.@TPPF urges Members of the Texas Senate to vote "NO" on HB 2512, a bill that would erode last session's ETJ release process.
No Texan should be trapped under the thumb of city officials that they cannot vote For/Against nor can they escape. #txlege texaspolicy.com/press/tppf-u…

I wish you were as concerned about @AustinISD's FAILING government schools as you are about a think tank's tax exempt status.
But here we are. 🤷♂️ #txlege #txed
This right-wing advocacy outfit pays 0 in property taxes while it lobbies #txlege to defund neighborhood schools.
It’s past time to end this sweetheart deal for @TPPF & make them pay their fair share. Read more here: texasmonthly.com/news-politi…

#HB23 is a good bill that will help make housing more affordable in #Texas. City building codes & zoning regulations will still apply, so the arguments against are unfounded. #txlege
"House Bill 23 (HB 23) seeks to address these permitting challenges by allowing licensed third-party professionals to conduct administrative reviews of permit applications. [C]ities would retain full control over zoning, platting, density, and land-use decisions. HB 23 does not alter a city’s authority to set development standards; it simply provides an option for permit applicants to use certified third parties to help process applications more efficiently." dallasexpress.com/state/hb-2…

State laws are not suggestions for local governments to consider.
They are requirements. #txlege must make that clear through new enforcement methods and penalties. @TPPF

I am trying to understand these "Hands Off" protests.
Is the argument that the ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES take his "hands off" the U.S. government?
This is nothing less than anti-democratic. Are these people delusional or what?
