Stern is a Zionist – and even he believes that the definition is being weaponised to suppress pro-Palestine speech.
EXCLUSIVE: “I think it’s become so poisoned now that I wouldn’t use it.” Kenneth Stern, who led the drafting of the definition later adopted by the IHRA, tells Zeteo UK it should not be used in schools. @RivkahBrown reports, full article in thread 👇

The tide in is turning, and it is not stopping. One public message after another. Jewish New Yorkers are coming out and saying it plainly: Not in our name. Zionism is not Judaism. Netanyahu does not represent us.

Interesting that no media coverage discusses the extra windfall profit made by banks as interest rates rise. Neoliberalism has led to the redistribution of wealth from the poor to the rich and @andyburnham has no real solutions to end it. theguardian.com/business/202…

Zack Polanski speaks without notes in a rational but passionate repudiation of the insults aimed at him by the pro-Israel mob. This is an example of powerful oratory that will be completely ignored by the BBC, Sky etc so lets retweet to make sure it gets maximum coverage here.

The CEO of Shell is among oil bosses who have raked in millions of pounds as the value of their shareholdings soared amid the illegal US war on Iran. Wael Sawan saw his shares in Shell gain £4.7m since the US and Israel first attacked the country in late February, research by Greenpeace shows. He cashed out £1.3m worth of shares on 22 May, the day before Donald Trump said a deal to cease hostilities had almost been reached. Bosses from TotalEnergies, Harbour Energy and Equinor also raked in millions as oil prices surged due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a major global transport route for oil and natural gas. North Sea oil CEOs have added a total of £19m to their personal fortunes via share price increases since the war began, Greenpeace said. The windfalls come as oil giants report a bumper set of financial results whilst households in the UK and across the world struggle with rising energy bills. Equinor CEO Anders Opedal has seen his shares rise by £1.03m amid the war, while TotalEnergies’s Patrick Pouyanné enjoyed an £8.4m boost to his shareholdings, selling £3.1m in shares and savings one month after the war began. “Cashing out millions in personal shares while the market drives millions of people into energy poverty – all while their companies’ operations supercharge climate breakdown – is crisis profiteering at its most cynical,” said Rudy Schulkind, political campaigner at Greenpeace UK. Equinor and Shell were recently granted permission by Andy Burnham’s government to start new drilling in the Jackdaw gas field in the North Sea. Both are also set to benefit in the event that Rosebank oil field is approved. Oil companies in the US have earned more than $130bn in profits during the war, according to an analysis last week from the New York Times. Trump’s decision to capitulate to Israel and attack Iran appears to have lost him a lot of support – and is believed to have played a key role in the Republicans’ resounding defeat in the midterms on Tuesday. The US president campaigned on an anti-war platform while promising to lower people's bills.

Britain flew over 600 spy flights over Gaza and built 15% of every F-35 that bombed it. The Labour government says no inquiry is needed into its role in Israel’s genocide. We, the public, disagree. 80,000 have signed our petition. At 100,000, MPs debate it or explain why not. Sign: petition.parliament.uk/petit…

This is a really important interview by Rivkah Brown in Zeteo with Kenneth Stern, who helped draft the predecessor to the IHRA Working Definition. He's adamant that the IHRA should be dumped, even as an academic and monitoring tool. He's very clear it is so "poisoned" it should never be used in schools, as the government is now planning to do based on the Bell review. This is what Stern says: “I think it’s become so poisoned now that I wouldn’t use it primarily for [data collection] or any other purpose...The track record of IHRA in the U.S., Germany, Australia and, yes, the UK has been to use [the IHRA definition] to label pro-Palestinian speech” – including that of pro-Palestinian Jews – “as officially antisemitic."

Abdul El Sayed's most famous campaigner, Hasan Piker, was banned from entering the UK by Andy Burnham's government. That is the Labour Party's true position on this.
When you vilify, smear and demonise good people who refuse to let your hate define them, other good people don't stand by. They stand up and vote for hope over fear. Congratulations @AbdulElSayed 🎉

1. Canada's finance bosses say we can't nationalise our water companies. Are we a sovereign nation or not? Why must our most crucial infrastructure be owned by overseas banks and corporations? finance.yahoo.com/economy/po…

After border officials turned me back from the West Bank last week, I spent a few hours on Mount Nebo. It is where Moses is said to have looked out across the land he was never allowed to enter. That view feels personal today. Millions of Palestinians are still denied entry to the towns and villages their families came from. What happens here reaches far beyond these borders. Allowing any state to strip people of their basic rights without consequence erodes human rights protections for everyone.

Labour still running scared of the water industry lobby and refusing to nationalise.
The privatisation of water has failed our communities. Household bills are set to rise by more than 40%, after years of underinvestment while shareholders and executives have continued to benefit. I've long called for elected Mayors to have greater powers to hold water companies to account, influence their operations and ensure money raised through fines goes back into the communities affected by sewage pollution. Through our new regional water council, we'll keep pushing for Yorkshire Water to put people first, protect our rivers and deliver a greener, more affordable future for West Yorkshire. 💧 gov.uk/government/news/commu…

Author Sarah Helm wrote on X last month: “God help us authors who support Palestine and Palestine Action”. The Met police chose not to take action against her. But when retirees, health workers, the children of Holocaust survivors, a CBE and a professor held up signs quoting her outside the supreme court today, they were all promptly arrested on suspicion of supporting a proscribed terrorist organisation. @harriepw reports from outside the supreme court in London: novara.media/4jXpbD0

Yep, allowing the USA to use the UK to bomb Iran shouts out we want a de-escalation.
Govt minister Angela Eagle on the US/Israeli war on Iran: "We have always wanted a de-escalation of this conflict.. the faster that we can see a de-escalation of that conflict the better for everybody" So why have you been allowing the US to use British bases to bomb Iran?

PLEASE SHARE THIS. BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, PLEASE ACT. In light of recent events, the escalating attacks on those condemning Israel's actions in Gaza, and the attempts to conflate criticism of those actions with antisemitism, it's time to flip the script. For too long, those challenging Israel's conduct have been forced to defend themselves, while those defending or excusing it face nowhere near the same scrutiny. That needs to change. I've drafted a letter that anyone in the UK can send to their MP, demanding direct answers on the killing of civilians, genocide, international law, the ICJ and ICC, humanitarian aid, and the UK's potential complicity. At its heart is one fundamental question: If the findings and evidence of international courts and independent investigators aren't sufficient to justify action, what exactly is? And if MPs reject those findings, what independent evidence are they relying upon? What have they personally done to establish the facts? What would change their position? And what are they doing to ensure their decisions don't facilitate further violations? We need to shift the burden of explanation. Please copy the letter, send it to your MP, demand direct answers and share their response if possible. Let's make every MP accountable for what they defend, what they condemn, and what they choose to do. #GazaGenocide #Israel @andyburnham @KemiBadenoch @EdwardJDavey @Nigel_Farage @ZackPolanski @jeremycorbyn 📄 LETTER TEMPLATE: docs.google.com/document/d/1…

Remind me, how much will my bills rise as a result of the price cap rise in January? Your £100 does not begin to undo the rises families have suffered and will continue to suffer.
Labour is helping families to tackle the cost of living. We are giving millions of families £100 to help with rising energy costs. The Conservatives voted against this.

Did you spot Labour's con trick on the immigration rule changes? Headlines: Burnham changes Starmer policy, proposed changes softened/ Reality: These changes make the system harsher than anything the Tories did. Burnham's a con artist so no surprise there. But did why the media swallow this?
Spent a bit of time looking at Mahmood’s announcement yesterday. Clear that even with the care concession it’s one of the toughest announcements on settlement by a Home Secretary for decades. Far stronger than anything the Tories implemented, or Braverman or Jenrick advocated at the time.
