#RedSox prospect Franklin Primera slashed .367/.499/.581 in 340 PA between the Complex Level and Low-A this season. That's the highest MiLB OBP (min 300 PA) in over a decade.

“It's highly individual... How you get guys to their performance on the field is very, very specific.” 🗣️ @RedSox hitting coach John Soteropulos broke down his process helping to develop Boston's hitters.

Red Sox prospect Franklin Primera DOMINATED the Florida Complex League ⤵️ Primera was the FCL’s purest hitter, and he departed the league carrying a .427/.549/.718 line over 32 games. He produced those numbers through improved bat speed and sound swing decisions, which resulted in a player scouts believe can be at least an average hitter with plus power. Only seven Red Sox homegrown right-handed hitters have had 20+ home run seasons since 2007. Boston has had difficulty developing RHH power. But that narrative might be changing. The Sox have nine prospects w/ 10 or more homers are right-handed hitters: masslive.com/redsox/2026/06/…

Meanwhile, this is what we’re looking at for former @DrivelineBB hitting coaches next season 3 MLB Hitting Coaches 4 in Director level positions 4 in Coordinator roles 2 AAA Hitting Coaches 2 AA Hitting Coaches Many others throughout the rest of MiLB and college baseball with more Orgs constantly reaching out about our staff. That doesn’t happen being “one dimensional”, what we do works whether you like it or not.
Overvaluing bat speed isn’t a good idea. Will definitely lead to lower BAs and higher Ks. Basically making hitters “one dimensional”. Not a good product when hitters swing for HRs every damn pitch. Hitters aren’t made in labs. @MLB @DrivelineBB

Changing the reference point for a hitter can drastically shift their perception of a movement Do the hands move forward through space? Absolutely. Do they move relative to the torso? Barely. Some common reference points are: • Another body part • An external object • Space
Coaches love looking at hand path, but what moves the hands during the swing? In this video, the torso position is fixed. This allows us to see the hand movement in relation to the torso, essentially showing us what the arms are doing. The answer? Not a whole lot.

Very cool visual of what the arms are doing (or really, not doing) during the swing.
