1/ I'm going to take a moment on this one, because this argument is ... wrong. During the Augustine Commission we had an actual study done. The argument is wrong because in a multiple launch architecture most of the launches are just propellant tanks and you have spares!

Otter Pup 2 is now operating as close as 25 meters away from @GilmourSpace's ElaraSat, fully autonomously. This vid contains imagery captured when we were separated by just 33.6 meters. We’ve demonstrated our ability to safely and precisely operate at very close range, executing intricate maneuvers, gathering detailed imagery, and testing the capabilities we’ll need for docking. With this progress, Otter Pup 2 has officially completed Characterize, the penultimate phase of its mission. That leaves just one phase left: attempting docking, and a chance to make history.

"Tunnel" is probably the Heinlein juvenile which we *most* need to be faithfully adapted today, one which would be very easy for a competent screenwriter to adapt, and one that will never, ever be made unless via AI, specifically because it *is* the anti "Lord of the Flies".

I would go see a good make of 'Tunnel In The Sky'. Repeatedly.

And another final flight from the _Enterprise_ crew. He did the best one could do with not very much material as Chekov. On B5, any episode with Bester was guaranteed to be a good one, and it always added a little extra pleasure that an SF icon had been finally given the chance for a role where his acting could soar.
Well, it's Monday, I guess. (His Bester was always better than his Chekov, but he was amazing in every role.)

There are so many good ideas collected over the years in Moon Miner's Manifesto. I hope others consult that resource as Lunar presence becomes a reality.
Peter Koch, editor and publisher of the long-running Moon Miner's Manifesto, passed away on October 8. He was 88. Peter advocated for developing and settling the Moon for most of his life. Whether through the NSS or the Moon Society, which he helped create, Peter held the knowledge, lore, and spirit that kept it all going. He will be sadly missed. nss.org/remembering-peter-ko…

A conversation that has happened many times in banking, with various flavor texts, from fintech to public banking to microfinance. A: We think there is an opportunity to write loans to an underserved population. B: At usuriously high rates? A: No, at usual rates. Maybe lower.

If my read of the French character is correct, there's a lot of weapons buried out there in the countryside that might date back to the Resistance. Good time to ask your grandparents to share their old stories.

This is subjective but… Name three PERFCT movies. No argument. No explanation. Just three flicks you think are perfect. I’ll start: 1) Jaws 2) The Godfather II 3) The Empire Strikes Back (That was hard. I wanted to put three more. 😂)

The fundamental challenge for advanced space propulsion of *all* types is -- "OK, yes, we can open the Solar System" or even "Yes, we have cracked interstellar flight", now what is the MARKET for that?

It will *probably* turn out to be nothing all that weird. But if you wanted to look for exotic matter, they'd at least be worth a look!
Fast rotating asteroids! arxiv.org/abs/2610.07584 The most extreme of these seems to be (491384) 2012 BZ145 with a rotation period of 252 seconds & a radius of ~ 1265 m. Assuming that R gives an equatorial velocity of ~32 m / s & acceleration 0.8 m/s^2. Ain't no rubble pile.

There's some serious insight here that most of the publishing and filmmaking industry has studiously ignored.

Silly Little Hat. It's amazing what a single addition to your wardrobe can do for your social life. This would make for a fantastic short story, the elderly trying to reintegrate into society and getting it wrong. I might have a go at something similar. 😎

I really liked this article
In "The Economic Engine of Enduring Space Power," @crswope discusses why a strong national defense space capability depends heavily on a non-government (NASA or DoD) commercial space sector. He discusses the role of tax and regulatory incentives but probably didn't have the spare word count to dive into details. This thread contains a few points that should be considered now. csis.org/analysis/economic-e…
