Meet Mama Mia (#TX3233) 🐶💛 Mama Mia’s story is one we won’t forget. Found very pregnant on the side of the road in Texas, this sweet 3-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix was taken in by a kind couple who gave her a safe place to rest and, soon after, welcomed her nine puppies into the world. When caring for a new mom and nine babies became overwhelming, a network of dedicated shelter partners and rescue groups stepped in to help the whole family get to safety. That journey brought Mama Mia to North Shore Animal League America, where she raised her babies and gave them the best start she could. Most of her puppies have now found loving homes, and after being adopted herself, Mama Mia recently found her way back to us. Since returning, she’s been having a hard time adjusting. She’s a little sad, and we know what she needs most is a patient person who will give her time, structure and understanding as she settles back in. ❤️ Because underneath it all, Mama Mia is an absolute SWEETHEART. She LOVES people, wants to be close to them and soaks up affection. She has so much love to give and just wants to feel safe and loved again. Mama Mia would do best as the one and only pet in the home, with children 8+. Previous dog experience would be a wonderful plus. She can be sensitive when encountering other dogs while on leash, and our Pet Behavior Team is working with her to help her feel more comfortable and confident. She’s also continuing to work on appropriate play and boundaries. Mama Mia doesn’t need a perfect home. She needs the *right* home. A patient person who will give her the chance to decompress, trust again and show them what a loving companion she can be. 💕 She raised nine babies. She gave them everything. After spending much of her life in a place where dogs are treated as commodities rather than cherished companions, Sugar Bear has a lot to learn about the comforts of being loved 💔 She's a fearful, nervous little girl who will need a patient family willing to help her build confidence at her own pace. With gentle guidance, encouragement, and lots of love, Sugar Bear has the potential to become a happy, loyal companion. And that adorable little tongue? Sugar Bear has just TWO TEETH left, which is why it loves to peek out of her mouth! 😋 She does have pulmonary hypertension and collapsing airway syndrome, both of which are managed with twice-daily medication. Meet Cooper, the 60-pound goofball with a BIG personality and an even BIGGER love for his stuffed penguin! 🐧❤️ Cooper #R163907 is a 4-year-old Doberman mix who was rescued in September through our partnership with NMDR. Since arriving, our team has been working with Cooper to build his confidence, improve his social skills, and help him navigate some of the challenges that come with life in a shelter. And when Cooper gets some time outside his kennel, his playful side really shines! Whether he's having the time of his life with his favorite penguin, enjoying some playtime, or simply relaxing in his bed with a bone, Cooper knows how to have fun AND how to kick back. 🥰 Cooper is still learning how to navigate the world around him! He can get overstimulated by the sights and sounds of a busy shelter environment, particularly when he sees people and other dogs passing his kennel. He's also working on his leash manners and socialization skills. His ideal adopter will have experience with dogs, a commitment to continued training, and the patience to help him build confidence at his own pace.  With the right guidance, patience, and plenty of love, Cooper has so much potential to blossom into a wonderful, loyal companion.
