Sales of new vans are going electric, but the old diesel ones are staying on European roads for too long.

Breaking: the EU Parliament has awarded this year's Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
It comes as the court is under an unprecedented attack from the US government.

While forecasts predict that the House of Representatives—and possibly the Senate—will turn blue on November 3rd, Europeans should not assume that Democrats can rein in Trump’s foreign policy, writes @nevadajoan. @ECFRStates ecfr.eu/article/a-democratic…
An unfair election and small-scale manipulation may not be enough to stop a shift in popular attitudes, as Viktor Orban’s stunning defeat in Hungary showed earlier this year, write @EngjellusheM and Goran Buldioski. @ECFREuropeanSec ecfr.eu/article/between-vuci…

OPEN LETTER: Sally Rooney is a writer, not a terrorist. Her books must be available to the public. Their withdrawal from sale, on the basis of ill-conceived and draconian anti terror legislation, is an affront to basic principles of free speech and expression so long taken for granted in this country. We categorically reject censorship - whether direct or indirect - and urge the government to change course, amending the legislation which has led us to this point of repressive absurdity.

Politico reports that rather than leave the EU the AFD will seek to significantly water down EU powers if it gains control of Germany 👇
Pedro Sánchez is, by a distance, the most remarkable European political talent of his generation.
Our @ecfr report on the European and foreign policies of the RN:
A Rassemblement National government would be hostile to the EU and a disruptive partner on numerous issues facing Europe; including on Russia, enlargement, climate and migration 👇️

Lots of talk in French media and diplo circles about foreign support for "organized" violence in French demonstrations
