I have some things to ponder on this.
-- This does fix a critical problem of how to handle storms that take a left or right turn off of the mean flow which then take them out of established polygons.
-- How is that handled on legacy systems (NWR specifically)? – at Hebron, KY
Severe weather warnings are changing in 2028. It's a major update for the United States when it comes to alerts like Tornado Warnings and Severe Thunderstorm Warnings.
Today, @NWS handles a long-lasting storm with a series of separate warning boxes, each issued one after another. Each box can last up to about 45 minutes. A storm can also cross from one NWS office’s area into another’s, which means a new warning has to be issued.
The catch? Two neighbors a few miles apart can get very different notice. If you’re just outside the next box, you may have to wait for the next warning before you’re alerted.
Enter “Threats in Motion.” This approach replaces the stack of boxes with one warning that moves with the storm.
Here’s what changes:
📍 More equal lead time: Everyone downstream gets a fairer heads-up, not just the people in the next box.
🕐 Regular updates: The same warning is updated every 10-15 minutes, and forecasters adjust the shape, direction, and timing as the storm changes.
🛡️ Fewer gaps: On busy nights when forecasters are tracking several storms, a long-track storm stays warned.
✅ A built-in “all clear”: Warnings drop off places the threat has passed, so you know when it’s safe to come out of your shelter.
The technology isn’t here yet, so today’s warnings still apply. Threats in motion is being built into a new operating system that NOAA and the NWS are adopting in 2028. This change has been a long time coming and solves a lot of problems we have in the warning process. It can't get here soon enough. #nwas26 #severeweather #weather
-- Do there need to be upgrades to the WEA alerts to handle the 10-15 minute warning updates? Especially for storms that commonly move 55-60 mph in some areas of the country?
-- What about flash flood warnings? Does that product also need to change? – at Hebron, KY
I'll be LIVE on my YouTube channel after the @BCHS_Rebels1955 vs @RCHS_Jaguars game -- youtube.com/@jmoses4126?si=j… – at Florence, KY
Physical crash out is imminent but I always enjoy hanging out with my @blacknbluegrass peeps in Fort Thomas. #BBRD – at Wilder, KY
NKY: Traffic closures may have just went back into effect on 275 EB near @CVGairport and WB near 471 per Google maps. EXPECT SIGNIFICANT DELAYS. #CincyTraffic – at Florence, KY
Several people complimented me on my performance. I sang it several times on my way over, and I still lost it on some of the words.
My brother @Rafish312 just said this to me as I came home and I'm with him:
It's not about how good you are when you karaoke. It's about just doing the thing.
So I did the thing. – at Hebron, KY
#Cincytraffic ALERT: ALL LANES southbound I-71/75 still CLOSED at Mall Road (exit 180A) due to a tractor trailer that caught fire! You're backed solidly to 275 going south. Northbound onlooker delay from Mount Zion.

How difficult is it, if you can't take a ride right then, to cancel instead of leaving me to sit and wait for 10 minutes? @Uber_Support
Here's the official forecast as of 5am for #Isaías. The peak wind forecast is 110 before landfall late Friday night, but Category 3 strength before wind shear weakens it is not out of the question.
A Hurricane Watch will likely be necessary for part of the Gulf Coast today.
The track shifted east, but remember impacts will be felt well away from the center.
New Orleans, while less likely to see a direct hit, is not completely in the clear yet, so #WWEMITB is still at risk. Travel conditions could be hazardous.
Updates may be posted on @prowrestlingnet as things evolve, as it relates to Friday night #Smackdown and #WWEMITB.
