Happy Reformation Day to most Protestants celebrating Luther while rejecting so much of what he actually taught. Apparently, challenging the Catholic Church is enough to overlook some pretty serious disagreements.
Luther supported civil punishment of Anabaptists. He certainly wasn’t defending everyone’s freedom to interpret Scripture and start another church.
Here’s a list of what he believed: baptismal regeneration, infant baptism that forgives original sin rather than believers-only baptism, Mary’s perpetual virginity, Mary as the Mother of God, Mary’s assumption into heaven, Christ’s true body and blood present in the Eucharist, Communion conveying forgiveness of sins, private confession and ministerial absolution, making the sign of the cross, retaining religious images in churches, the permissibility of limited prayers for the dead, and the possibility of a genuine believer falling away from salvation.
How many of those beliefs would get someone accused of being “too Catholic” in your church today?
Oh, but wait. Semper reformanda. Always reforming, I guess?

Happy all Hallows Eve 🎃
To the Protestants who are celebrating the Reformation Day today, here are some Catholic beliefs which Martin Luther affirmed:
- True presence of the Eucharist
- Infant Baptism
- Perpetual Virginity of Mary
- Virgin Mary as the mother of God
- Displaying crucifixes and images of Saints
- Praying for the souls of the dead.

Indeed, it seems to me highly disrespectful of people's dignity if you treat them as hostages to their beliefs, incapable of responding to the truth when presented graciously and compellingly, and instead not worth the effort of trying to educate or persuade.

If someone thinks we cannot rightfully, morally persuade or bring anyone to become Christian, because this violates their 'sacred humanity,' I think they will find themselves in direct contradiction with Christ's own commission to 'baptize' all, not merely be friendly with them.

If the desire to convert someone (i.e., to persuade them to become Christian with words and/or deeds) undermines their 'sacred humanity,' so does ANY desire or effort to 'attract them' to Christianity.
For what is 'attraction' except trying to bring them to become Christian?
