A great start to our conference!
The kingdoms of this world are built on the shifting sands of human thinking. But the kingdom of heaven is built on an unshakable foundation. Empires like Rome may fall, but our King reigns supreme. —Derek Thomas #ligcon
We win down here!
Things are bad in Canada. There is no way around it. MAID is expanding. Inflation is soaring. Censorship is also expanding. Do remember though that many of the churches during COVID lockdowns who had pastors arrested, fined and mocked, have only faced growth for their faithful stand and commitment to the ministry of the Word & sacrament. It is bizarre that more don't rally around truth at this point in history, especially after so many recognize that lockdowns were a complete failure, and no one is getting vaccinated anymore. Just remember though that every time there is a flashpoint and the church remains faithful to the Word, that this will reap good fruit in the long term.
Pray for Amy Hamm and her successful appeal.
Amy Hamm, a nurse and single mother, was dragged through a modern-day witch trial for saying that men are not women.
Her profession was a nurse, yet she was called "unprofessional" by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives for understanding biology.
She lost her career overnight and has been ordered to pay $94,000 in costs.
She will be appealing the decision in a little over a week.
I stand with Amy Hamm. ✊🏻

If you think the rights of @preta_6 matter, please get some actual skin in the game. It’s good to “like” and repost her story - keep doing that. But more meaningful would be making a donation to @JCCFCanada and similar groups.
November 10, 12 & 13: The dates of my appeal trial at the BC Supreme Court.
I am appealing a ruling that found me guilty of "unprofessional conduct" for advocating for the rights of women and children in my off-duty time.
My regulator, the BC College of Nurses, investigated me at the behest of a cancellation mob after receiving complaints from members of the public I've never met. I have never had a patient complaint. I was dragged through years of disciplinary hearings, lasting longer than a murder trial. (My fight was made possible by @JCCFCanada and @LDBildy.)
After my guilty verdict, I was told I would face a 1 month suspension and had to pay $94,000 to the BCCNM. My employer of 13 years, Vancouver Coastal Health, fired me with no severance, and no way to even collect EI. I was a single mom with 2 young boys. The suspension and $94k was put on hold for the appeal. My name is blacklisted and I essentially was pushed out of the profession entirely.
I first noticed the rise of gender ideology a decade ago, and I was fascinated and repulsed that women were being told to shut up about their experiences to make way for people who identify as us. Then I came to understand that paediatric "gender affirming care" is a terrible medical scandal, probably worse than the lobotomy. I began to write about the topic and, with another BC woman, began to organize events to discuss gender ideology. We faced vicious threats, protests, and attempts to shut us down. Later, of course, I was involved in a billboard project that drew a lot of ire from trans activists.
Never could I have imagined that life would go in this direction: being smeared as a bigot across the country; losing my career and long-term financial stability; and spending 6+ years in a protracted legal battle.
I'm still fighting because I care about the truth, free speech (for all of us, but especially for regulated professionals, who don't deserve to be policed in their private lives and forced to go along with state orthodoxy), and women's rights. Please follow along for updates.

Only Christian culture turned on slavery (twice over the centuries) and eradicated it at great cost to itself. The British led the way & moved against the African, Arab and European nations & empires engaged in the trade. Thank you William Wilberforce and thank you England.

We cannot keep measuring government by the importance of the people in the room while ignoring its failure to serve the people outside it.
How much longer are Canadians expected to pay for performative nonsense and applaud without seeing results?
Can someone explain what Canadians are supposed to gain from Ursula von der Leyen and EU leaders coming to Canada? What, specifically, are we trying to accomplish here?
We can’t even keep our own house in order, yet our elected officials are hosting international leaders and presenting another partnership as an accomplishment.

When government keeps failing to address problems at home, Canadians are entitled to question its priorities. How does this visit help resolve those failures? What will it accomplish for the people paying for it?
Our elected officials answer to Canadians. They are spending our money and making commitments on our behalf. We are entitled to know what they are agreeing to, what obligations we are taking on and how any of it will improve our lives.
If this visit delivers something worthwhile, show us. Publish the terms, disclose the costs and explain who will answer if the benefits don’t materialize.

Fantastic writing, Jeff!
I heard @merelyjwright preach this message at the Muscular Christianity conference last month.
It's an excellent example of a pastor being political. Or better, he's being faithful to call out the threat of Islam and right way for Christians to respond.

I’m thinking about Timon’s post. I think it’s relevant to any future Dune iterations, as it could also be to Greta Gerwig’s (as yet unreleased) “Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew.” Check it out.
Time to repost the most Straussian I’ve ever been: archive.americanreformer.org…
A church can confess the Westminster Standards with perfect precision and still be soft. It can sing the imprecatory psalms on Sunday and yet be governed by the fear of giving offense. It can oppose feminism in its position papers while its sessions table every hard question, its ministers hedge every conviction, its highest virtue is that nobody was upset, and the practice of discipline goes unused except against those who question these things.

If pastors will not lead their congregations to the polls on Nov 3, then hang a banner over every capital in this land:
“Pagan by permission of the church”
The Word of God is authoritative and sufficient, and Christ is on His throne
Preach all of Christ for all of life

"ending their life"...'without informing them of what is about to happen' is called murder.
Murder.
Say it after me: M U R D E R
Don't perpetuate evil by cloaking it in language that disguises the truth.
Until Conservatives are willing to call this crime murder, and prosecute those who commit it as murderers, and treat victims of this crime as those who have been murdered, nothing will change.
Veiled speech and online indignation are not enough.

Many Canadians don’t even see this. Some refuse to. Some just don’t care.
There is something deeply unhealthy happening in our public discourse.
When people question government policy, they are called extremists.
When they raise concerns about immigration or social cohesion, they are called racists.
When they question public-health decisions or speak about vaccine injuries, they are called anti-vaxxers.
When they challenge the constitutional status quo or discuss Alberta’s future, they are called traitors.
These labels are rarely intended to encourage dialogue. They are used to end it.
But questioning government is not extremism.
Challenging existing laws is not lawlessness.
Discussing constitutional change is not disloyalty.
And disagreeing with government policy does not make someone dangerous.
In a healthy democracy, citizens are free to question authority, challenge prevailing ideas and advocate for change. That is not a threat to democracy. It is democracy.
The real danger is a political culture that silences legitimate concerns, punishes disagreement, disparages citizens and treats them as enemies simply because they refuse to conform.
We will not rebuild public trust by ignoring this reality. We will rebuild public trust by listening, answering difficult questions and addressing the substance of their concerns.
Dialogue does not weaken a country. Refusing to have it does.
Further to my remarks about “Loser Theology” by @dmichaelclary here are some thoughts I posted elsewhere a few weeks ago:
In recent years I’ve been told (not by atheists and secular progressives but astonishingly by Christians) to stay in my lane and shut up about cultural/political issues.
Every single complaint about my posture was leveled by white boomer women in their late-sixties to late-seventies. Every one. A dear old Christian female friend sent me a message - no “hi Jim” no “how are things?” or “how is Claudia doing?” Just this single line: “I don’t like it when you talk politics.”
My reply was “I don’t care.”
Everything is political. Nothing occurs outside of the “polis.” To stay silent is to have nothing helpful to say about the very things that affect life, and quality of life for every human on the planet. It is to abandon my role as a shepherd/protector and take no interest in the world we are building or leaving behind for future generations. It is to refuse to love my neighbour.
Checking out of culture on purpose is flat-out disobedience to God’s cultural mandate.
For decades too many pastors have treated cultural engagement like a disease, especially anything that smells like politics. They swallowed the sacred/secular split whole and called it wisdom. They bought Pietism’s cheap lie: Christianity is a private hobby, God’s law has no business in how nations are run, and the pulpit should stay “pure” by ignoring politics, schools, economics, and the rest of public life. Getting into the culture war, they say, is getting dirty with “the secular.” So they dodge the fight and congratulate themselves for “just preaching the gospel.”
That’s not piety. That’s cowardice dressed up as holiness. It’s a naïve, unbiblical gutting of the gospel. At the same time it pretends culture and politics are a religion-free zone, as if righteous government is some kind of category error. Don’t step into or speak up in the public square, right?
Stop dividing the world into “sacred” and “secular.” The real line is obedience or disobedience to the lordship of Christ. Christians who sit out cultural work on purpose are not being spiritual. They’re disobeying the mandate God actually gave. Speak up.
