What makes Downs generational, though, is not that he is a freak athlete. Those are common. It's his ESP. It's his ability to know the entire route design almost instantly, and know exactly how to tailor his technique to it, even sometimes outside of his assignment.
In this I described Downs as "defensive stem cells." He is a blank check written out to whatever problem you need to solve. Anarumo's chameleon system worked because Bates did that, but Downs is better. He helps with *every problem the Bengals have*

Truly hilarious outcome from where Monken and the Browns were six years ago
ESPN Sources: the Cleveland Browns are hiring former Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken as their next head coach.

This is the one everyone will kick themselves on. A front/pressure Miami show dozens of times on film. 4 Down Fromm (Field Bullet) with spot drop 3D/3U FZ behind it. Post safety even bites hard on Sayins first peek keeping Klare open. But Ruben Bain is an issue. 2 is the best player in college football. The two motions make him responsible for the A gap in the run fit. He picks it up, comes down, and makes the play at 2 yd. An elite S is like an elite TE. Undervalued because you don't *need* elite, but as impactful as anything

One way to evaluate run games in college football is to compare scheme and OL (yards before contact) with RB ability (yards after contact): Further right => Better scheme/OL Further up => Better RB talent/ability

The adidas contract with Penn State doesn't even go into effect until the summer of 2026, and they're not dropping fifty million in cash on anybody. That's around the neighborhood of what Penn State might get over the *entire length of a shoe deal*, not up front!
Source at Penn State: I have been told that Adidas drove the James Franklin firing and are why it happened today. They committed to pay most or all of the money. They also wanted a new coach before recent losses, but they made it hard for anyone at PSU to argue.

fundamentally believe the solution to the loneliness crisis is framed wrong it’s not just about making friends it’s about living a life where you feel the possibility of connection is all around you - smile at the barista - chat with a stranger in the grocery store line - text old friends - call your parents - find strangers to play volleyball with friendships are inherently transient - people move, people get busy, priorities change. make it so that you feel connected to humans no matter who specifically is in your life at that moment

On July 8, they trailed the Tigers by 15.5 games. On Sept. 4, they trailed the Tigers by 11 games. Now, with the tiebreaker clinched, the Cleveland Guardians sit atop the AL Central.

The explosives are obviously extremely valuable and can be the difference between good and great, but 90% of plays in the NFL for QBs are just about making the right decision and the layup throws based on what the coverage surrenders to you and stacking those to maintain drives.

In short I think the NFL is ahead, in part because we are in a very tactical phase of football strategy where it’s the details, matchups and minutiae that are the difference (where the NFL will always lead given resources, talent and time), not the big “structural” evolutions that tend to bubble up from the lower levels - the kind of quirky randomness that bubbles up from football federalism across countless colleges and high schools, vs the synthesis and systematic professionalism of the pros.
