Wow on Brand:
Justice Bennathan: "Youāve been convicted of a number of offences including rape.
āThe consequence of that is inevitably a significant custodial term.
āMy current view is that I therefore have to remand you into custody."

83% of MPs' staff have felt unsafe at work. Nobody should face that alone.
Over 1,500 staff from every party are organising together in GMB Union for safer, fairer workplaces in Parliament.

78% of constituency staff have had threatening calls or messages. Half of MPsā staff now meet the threshold for psychological distress.
No one is responsible for their safety across Parliament. One Parliament, One Employer would change that. #1P1E

With rising abuse aimed at MPs, it does feel scary to work in politics.
My MP is great and makes sure weāre all looked after - but that may not be a universal experience.
I back @GMB_MPs_Staffās One Parliament One Employer campaign for this reason!

MPsā offices have changed, but the way staff are employed has not.
@GMB_union is calling on MPs to support their One Parliament One Employer campaign for a single, central employer for Parliament.

My Budget today will help families with the pressures they face now.
It will back businesses and entrepreneurs, invest in Britain's future, and strengthen our national security.
A plan to get through this moment and build a stronger Britain.

Hahahahah marginal tax rate of 57% god the system is broken for graduates
Most tax calculators tell you how much tax you pay *now*. Ours also shows how much tax you'll pay on your next £1. Your marginal rate.
We'll be publishing straight after the Budget. But here's a preview - I'd love to get feedback.

The list sent by Harold Wilson to his cabinet of ālittle things that mean a lotā, including the protection of pubs, concessionary fares for the elderly, empty office blocks and āthe future of the pintā.
Echoes of this in Burnhamās small but popular policies today.

When I met Angela Rayner to campaign for change to overly aggressive council tax debt collection, with its unprecedented rapid escalation to balliffs, she nodded like most politicians do.
I explained it was destructive for individuals, councils and the economy. She listened more then said she'd change it. I was sceptical. Yet a consultation was launched within weeks and delightfully the change announced within 18mths (its in place from next April) - bullet train pace for politics.
I've a rule that if I campaign for a politician (of any party) to do something, and they do it, I say thank you. Its important to recognise it. So thank you so much Angela Rayner for listening and more importantly acting. The changes coming are a great start.
I promised we'd make council tax fairer, and Iām getting on with the job.
Too many working people have seen council tax debt spiral before they had the chance to get help.
That's why we're introducing more time to pay, clearer warnings if you miss a payment and more support from councils.
Thanks to @MartinSLewis and @mmhpi for their tireless campaigning to make this change happen.

If the I Paper had spent more than 30 seconds researching, they would have noted that the deal was done in 2015. Burnham didn't become Mayor until 2017.

Enough is enough.
For years, people have been expected to put up with Avantiās cancellations, delays, overcrowding, and a service that has failed them time and time again.
So my Labour government is bringing Avanti West Coast into public ownership at the earliest opportunity in March next year.
That means passengers, not shareholders, will come first.
More investment, fewer delays, and a renewed focus on getting the basics right.
We're putting essential services back in public hands and building a railway that actually works for the people who use it.

If a foreign state has attacked the UK, youād think all British politicians would unite in condemning that state. Not Reform. Their first response is to lash out at the Government, and try and make political capital out of the incident.

If you leave a home empty long-term in the middle of a housing crisis, it should be seized.
Todayās announcement is great news.
