this can be applied to a lot more than basketball, a lot more than sports.

I’ll never understand this logic. Of all the attributions of success to ignore, why ignore play? Kobe woke up at 4 AM so we tell players to wake early. Some player ran miles in the offseason in the 50s, so we do the same. Yet, when it comes to play, it's nah, more training.

The secret to winning is learning how to lose. That is, learning to bounce back from failure and disappointment—undeterred—and continuing to steadily march toward your potential. Your response to failure determines your capacity for success.

You can't change your past, but you can reframe it. Find the lesson in it. Find the opportunity in it. Pull the teachable moment out of it and share with others. You can't choose your history, but you can choose the story you tell about it.

I used to laugh at old folks for eating their dinners at 5 & going to bed at 9. Now I realize they had it right all along.

Rick Pitino: “NIL didn’t get us this team.” He says Zuby Ejiofor and RJ Luis Jr. are “underpaid,” and that the team is built with character. Not money. (Billionaire donor Mike Repole has told me that he has no say in recruiting. It’s all Pitino. He just helps w resources.)
