A popular conspiracy theory as to why Western AAA makes masculine-looking women isn't just to avert the male gaze. It's to normalize the trans women "look" so that men are less put off by the weird, uncanny visuals of a non-passing trans woman. It doesn't work, obviously... and gamers are rejecting it. Especially when the majority demographic for gamers is straight men. No matter how many times they try to shove these "male-presenting women" in our faces, our disgust response doesn't go away. The disgust response is rooted in deep evolutionary psychology, and the human mind is very good at facial pattern recognition. There is even a deep part of the brain called the fusiform face area that activates when we look at faces. When the subconscious expectations of facial gender signals are subverted, it creates discomfort that no amount of propoganda can override. But people can be "taught" to suppress their disgust response with ideological "corrective" education. Which is why they have been bombarding us with that messaging. But the root feeling of subconscious disgust will always remain.
