The race for Oceanside City Council is beginning to take shape as candidates file to run in Districts 1 and 2 ahead of this year’s election.
Incumbents Deputy Mayor Eric Joyce and Councilmember Rick Robinson are both seeking reelection, while challengers, including Planning Commissioner Emily Gonzales, nonprofit founder Oscarin Ortega and Michael Cline, have also entered the race.
Key issues already emerging in the campaigns include affordable housing, public safety, environmental protection, agrotourism, wildfire preparedness and the city’s proposed RE:BEACH coastal resiliency project.

Three of our people were killed while protecting their community, their children.
This was an attack on the San Diego Muslim community There is an open war on the multicultural democracy and if we truly hold that ideal, then we have to stand together.

We fed updated campaign finance numbers and an adjusted partisan vote share into @paulmitche11's TWINS model for California's 2026 governor's race. The default run gives Republicans a 21% chance of locking Democrats out entirely. With current data? Just 1%.
Our Crown Heights Mural collaboration is coming along beautifully. Can’t wait to celebrate their completion and the re-opening of Crown Heights Community Center!
Got the chance to say thank you to @ChrisMurphyCT of Connecticut today. In the aftermath of the devastating school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary school Senator Murphy took on a leading role in the conversation on common sense gun reform and mental health supports. Gun violence is all too common and destructive to all who have been touched by it. There are ways we can reduce it and Sen. Murphy gives us hope.
Warren: We didn't even take the obvious and simple step of increasing the minimum wage the last time we had power. Why not?
Ask Kyrsten Sinema who curtsied on the senate floor while rejecting a minimum wage increase. And then spent the rest of her time in office protecting hedge fund managers from paying taxes and blocking filibuster reform.
Today she is cashing in from the industry she protected. The Wall Street journal recently marveled at the sheer number of projects she has taken on from crypto, ai and other wealthy corporate clients.
Meanwhile, millions of working Americans have not seen a wage increase in almost two decades are still waiting for Democrats to deliver on our most basic promises.
Unhinged. This is not how law and order works. No one has absolute immunity.
The impact of a completely untrustworthy media is hard to overstate.
