While I continue to advocate for responsible opioid prescribing, this was the culmination of my 2019 research showing great benefit in our chronic pain subgroup with CBD and the potential for opioid reduction.
In one study, more than ¾ of chronic pain patients reduced opioid use when taking CBD, and nearly 20% discontinued opioids completely. painmedicinenews.com/Clinica…

Chronic pain is a disease.
Chronic pain is more prevalent than cancer, diabetes, and heart disease combined.
Chronic pain is real.

Everything wrong with medicine is physicians arguing CBD is not safer than Benzos. I really struggle how physicians can be so blinded by “evidence” and not pause to think how one drug can kill you and one can’t. Why do docs overthink things? #commonsense #medtwitter

More data showing #CBD reduced chronic #opioid use.
#Cannabinoid and #pain researchers, are the prevailing theories that CBD is analgesic or that it is potentiating opioids through pharmacokinetic or pharmacodynamic means?

Another day where I put in 45 minutes to try to help an opioid-receiving patient, somewhere in the USA who is being abandoned. Not sure I can come up with individualized letters for all 10 million. It would be awesome to see health systems and regulators take this on with vigor.
Excited to get our one year research accepted to present at #ASRAFALL19 regarding CBD use in the chronic pain population. Trying to expand our armamentarium for health care providers @choice_cbd @PeterKubitzDO #CBD #cbdoil

Tired: big pharma and docs prescribing opioids caused the overdose crisis
Wired: Illicit fentanils poisoned the drug supply and we need low barrier tx

Sunlight! Historians propose to make documents from opioid manufacturers public. I suggest we add those from FDA, DEA, distributors, major insurers and quality metric agencies- all of whom have made crucial decisions: share it all @jenndoliva @DrewQJoseph

Looking at the proposed DEA 19-55% reduction in commonly used pain medication and its likely effect on legitimate pain management patients, will that translate to 19-55% increase in authorization for other forms of pain therapies for this already marginalized group? Sadly, no.

Thank you @washingtonpost for giving this issue that many of us have been writing and advocating about for years front-page coverage. beta.washingtonpost.com/heal… Nuance is essential in understanding the complexity of this crisis. #Opioids #ChronicPain

While I continue to fight for safe & judicious use of opioids for complex pain and #CPP rights, we recently presented research on our #CBD for pain and VOLUNTARY use of CBD for opioid reduction. Humbled to be 1 of 2 winners of the scientific research award at ASIPP @choice_cbd
My hope is that this data expands healthcare providers armamentarium to include and think about #CBD for pain, anxiety, and other researched symptoms. Opioids still should be an option for severe and refractory pain though.
Starting to finally see a succession of balanced articles addressing those caught in the crossfire.
