Judges, she said, can only rely on the information presented. If Gardaí choose not to disclose breaches of bail because an offender is providing information to the force, courts may be making decisions without knowing the full risk posed by the accused.

Ireland has as Repeat Offender Crisis.
The CSO lays the facts out bare:
87% of burglary cases are re-offenders
84% of Theft, Fraud cases are re-offenders
80% of drug incidents are re-offenders
70% for sexual violence cases are re-offenders.
Let me be clear,
Tolerating this is a political choice...🧵

Esther Burke isn't wrong to be furious about this.
There is actually a serious issue here which deserves discussion.
Foreign-registered vehicles temporarily in Ireland can operate under different registration and taxation arrangements from Irish-registered vehicles. That can also make roadside verification of documentation considerably less straightforward.
But none of that changes the fundamental question: if a vehicle is involved in a collision in Ireland, Gardaí must be able to establish who owns it, whether the driver is licensed, whether the vehicle is roadworthy and, crucially, whether valid insurance exists.
This shouldn't be about someone's nationality. It should be about having one effective system of road-safety enforcement for everybody using Irish roads.
If our authorities cannot quickly verify the insurance and legal status of a foreign-registered vehicle after a collision, that is the problem that needs fixing.

What a tremendous article here from @SadhbhO 👏
If you only read one article today, please make it, this one‼️
There are too many mealy-mouthed decision makers here in our beloved country getting a free pass when it comes to to road safety imho.
