The President of the United States has announced, with obvious pride, that he phoned Vladimir Putin and asked him for fuel. He calls it a great success. It is the richest country on earth going cap in hand to the man who bombs Ukrainian cities every night, because diesel became expensive before an election.
For four years Europe paid more for its energy, housed millions of refugees and emptied its arsenals so that Putin would not be rewarded. Washington has now concluded that all of it matters less than a cheaper tank for a truck in Ohio, and has told Ukraine to stop hitting the refineries that pay for the war.
This used to be the country others measured themselves against. Its remaining admirers are in Moscow and Pyongyang, and it has become exactly the kind of shithole it used to sneer at.

Nach Angaben des lettischen Innenministers @janisdombrava versuchte eine Gruppe von 20 irregulären Migranten, aus Belarus kommend die Grenze nach Lettland zu überqueren. Anders als bei früheren Vorfällen sei die Provokation diesmal besonders demonstrativ und aggressiv verlaufen. Die auf belarusischem Gebiet befindlichen Begleiter der Migranten seien bewaffnet gewesen, hätten lettische Soldaten bedroht und die Gruppe aktiv in Richtung der lettischen Grenze gedrängt, berichtet Dombrava. Mehrere Stunden später seien zudem maskierte Personen auf lettisches Staatsgebiet eingedrungen, hätten einen Verteilerkasten beschädigt und Überwachungskameras gestohlen, bevor sie sich wieder nach Belarus zurückzogen.
Der Vorfall zeigt einmal mehr, wie problematisch und irreführend der diese Tage medial nur allzu oft verwendete Begriff "hybrid" sein kann. Bewaffnete Drohungen gegen europäische Grenzschutztruppen und das Eindringen maskierter Personen auf das Territorium eines EU- und NATO-Staates sind keine abstrakten "hybriden Aktivitäten", sondern sehr reale Formen der Konfrontation (@MW42522637 👀).

NBS karavīri apturēja 20 nelegālo imigrantu mēģinājumu nelegāli sķērsot mūsu robežu, taču atšķirībā no daudziem iepriekšējiem gadījumiem šoreiz provokācija bija īpaši demonstratīva un agresīva. Nelegālo migrantu pavadoņi, kuri uzturējās Baltkrievijas pusē bija bruņoti, izteica draudus NBS karavīriem, kā arī aktīvi mudināja un dzina migrantu grupu Latvijas virzienā.
Vairākas stundas pēc šī konflikta maskās tērpti cilvēki iekļuva Latvijas teritorijā, sabojāja sadales skapi un nozaga kameras pirms paspēja ierasties robežsargu norīkojums, personas atgriezās Baltkrievijas teritorijā.
Baltkrievijai būtu jāsaprot, ka šādi gadījumi var novest pie smagākām sekām pašai Baltkrievijai.

Mongolia has joined Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan in sealing its borders with the russian terrorist state. These countries are trying to contain the spread of pneumonic plague from an outbreak in Irkutsk region.

In 1992, Boris Yeltsin admitted the Soviets had a BW program. Months later, Frank Wisner — then Under Sec State — led a US delegation to Moscow to press Russia to come clean on its biological warfare program. Russia never did so.
What’s important in Wisner’s declassified speaking points (below) is the heavy emphasis on Russia’s plague weapons, including work on “genetic engineering and other techniques” & “to make plague bacteria resistant to antibiotics, and to make the agent more suitable for weaponization.”
The Irkusk institute is not mentioned by name, but rather indirectly as part of “the former USSR's anti-plague infrastructure” where agents were developed for biological warfare (p.4).
It is important that Russia release the details on what pathogen killed Dariya Shipilova, & whether offensive BW activities continue at the Irkutsk lab where she worked.
