Oh, the kindness of strangers! I just cannot comprehend how many people have sent (literally and metaphorically) gestures of love to my one little boy in the midlands of England. Thank you @rosieclarke and your lovely daughter for the joy this has brought us.

The mum of an autistic boy from England @KateEYT has captivated the social media with her creativity. Kate's son constantly collects things and brings them into the house: from buttons to fragments of ceramic tiles.

This is a wonderful thread, but when @KateEYT said “What’s acceptance without celebration? It’s just tolerance really” it hit me hard. Yes!!!
Who’s ready for some Special Interest Spam? Buckle up! My #actuallyautistic son has been collecting stuff for years. His collection has been stuffed into the drawers under his bed or getting dusty on the top of his wardrobe. Until today!

What a beautiful display, each cubbyhole filled with love- every item significant and carefully chosen. To save them and display them with such respect- what an example of exemplary parenting. @KateEYT

I read this book to my nursery class yesterday. A little girl, who normally fidgets and needs a lot of adult support during carpet session sat for the entirety. When I’d finished she shouted ‘that’s my hair” #RepresentationMatters

BUDGET RESPONSE 💰
The government's new childcare policy will prevent many families from accessing much-needed extra support.
By expanding the offering without fixing the big issues with eligibility in the existing system, the poorest families will miss out 🧵👇 #BudgetDay2023

School leaders should be humble, inquiring, and empathetic rather than seeking attention or attempting to be heroes.
They must listen and comprehend the problem, as well as value each individual.
This week, be brave and magnificent.

One of my favourite things to do at the play-dough table is to just mess around.
I watch what the children are doing and respond to scaffold the play - if they are busy playing then I will quietly roll + do things that is a little different than what they are doing - quietly -

In this keynote talk, @drjoolspage argues that education starts with care. She claims that policy makers must shift educational priorities to refocus attention on the wellbeing of young children if they are to avert a mental health crisis for the next generation.

But what exactly are ‘language rich’ and ‘high quality’ interactions? Who gets to decide? And what kinds of privileged norms are those based on? The inevitable consequence of subjective categories like this is that certain ways of using language get marked as deficient.

Why would the DfE shrink the number of ITE providers, when there's a crisis in recruitment onto courses, leading to a lack of teachers? Is it ideology or incompetence? Or part of a plan to use unqualified teachers to 'deliver' a scripted curriculum? 🤷♀️

I keep seeing examples of the need for consistency misinterpreted as a need for rigidity. It's like some people have forgotten that children are also people and people require flexibility.
