Sycamore Gap in Northumberland was a place where nature, history, and symbolism met with a dramatic dip in the land, halfway along Hadrian’s Wall, once crowned by a solitary 300-year-old sycamore and its recent loss sparked public grief.
These materials invite pupils to explore the deeper meaning behind this landmark. What do they know about Sycamore Gap? Have they visited? Why do some places move us so deeply? Who decides what they mean and what becomes of them?

There's notion that if students do not study geography they've become ‘lost’ from the subject. But, recognising how they take geography with them, regardless of where or what they do, is critical in demonstrating our subject’s value
