What is a brain cell but not a neuron? It sounds like a riddle, but our brains are full of lesser-known cells besides the more well known neurons.
In this microscopy image, we see one such cell known as an astrocyte, named for their star-like shape. #SciShots

13 years ago, I was dying from OUD. The 12 steps saved my life, without any need for a belief in god. I learned a way of living that provided freedom from my addiction and the prison of emotional entanglement. If you’re struggling, my DMs are always open. 🙏

We are really excited to share these data! This project was a DEEP dive into investigating the structural effects of cocaine self-administration on astrocytes, which revealed a surprising role for microglia pruning astrocyte membranes across abstinence.

And particularly thanks to @LaboTremblay @haleyv whose expertise in EM and microglia cytoarchitecture revealed evidence for astrocyte membranes in microglia at the highest level of resolution.
Particular shout out to co-first authors twitter less Anze Testen, @jwvanryzin, and @_TaniaJB , whose creativity, rigor, and hard work have revealed an exciting new interaction between microglia and astrocytes.
