This is just straight up negligence. He could have died. @NFL do you really care about patient safety at all?
Eagles QB Jalen Hurts is expected to be sidelined for multiple months after new imaging over the weekend found several blood clots in his lungs. Hurts is now on blood thinners and should have no long-term effects. But it’s unlikely he plays again this season.

Chef opens a restaurant. People really like it. He books out reservations for 3 months. But now people are upset there’s a 3 month wait to go to the restaurant. Then, the government decides to put price caps at how much he can charge customers. He still needs to pay overhead and staff and ingredients, though. So he decides he needs to serve more customers to cover his costs. So he shortens the allowable time for meals. Of course, now the customers aren’t happy about having to rush through their meals. Many of them insist on eating at a leisurely pace, or they send their food back because they didn’t like it, or they show up late for their reservation and insist on being seated anyway. Meanwhile, the chef is trying to keep up. He feels bad he can’t put the same attention into each meal he did before. But if he doesn’t serve enough people in a day, he will have to close down (or sell to the large restaurant conglomerate down the street). Oh, and the government also decides that he now needs to do two hours of computer work for every hour he spends cooking. They force him to use a terrible, but expensive, computer system, too, not the one he wanted. So he needs to serve even more customers to cover those costs as well. The customers are rightly upset. They’re waiting longer and getting less personalized service. The chef is also upset that he’s spending more on overhead but delivering worse meals. Nobody is happy here.
Doctor’s offices be like: “please arrive 15 minutes early so the doctor can see you 45 minutes late.

Time to remind everyone of the inpatient cost of radiation cystitis that radiation therapy comes bundled with. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3816…
Literally saw a patient with a bladder rupture secondary to clot retention from radiation cystitis from prostate cancer radiation recently.

Ask hard questions. Demand real data. Challenge assumptions. That’s how medicine gets better. But some of what passes for “scientific discourse” online lately is just contempt with extra steps. Skepticism sharpens a field. Disagreement advances it. Cruelty doesn’t.

Some thoughts, welcoming feedback: 1. If the frontier labs feel obligated to build something they think is dangerous because China is going to build it anyway, we'd better be really sure that China is going to build it anyway. Like, really, really, really sure. Are we? Are we actually sure? The CCP wants to build an out-of-control, recursively self-improving model bc its neurotically, control-obsessed government thinks this is a policy worth pursing? We're 100% sure about that? 2. At the very least, we know that Chinese models distill American models to keep up with the frontier. So, any slowdown by the US seems like it would mechanically and automatically slow the ability of China to distill its way to progress. If we're afraid of the rate of progress, isn't that a good thing?
The AI warnings coming out in the last 24 hours are deadly serious. But any efforts to slow the pace of development & implement guardrails have to be global. It’s meaningless for the US to self-regulate when China continues advancing.

🚨 Exercise improved QoL for patients on ADT for #prostatecancer & it costs less per QALY than most cancer drugs the NHS funds 🚨 🏋️‍♂️@TheLancetOncol STAMINA trial: 👥 700 men on ADT, median age 71.6, 34% metastatic, 19% on ARPI or chemo 📊 Randomized 5:4 vs an ACTIVE comparator: optimised usual care w/ clinician training and behavioural prompts 💊 12 mo supervised aerobic + resistance exercise in community gyms, dietary advice, behavioural support, free membership ✅ FACT-P +4.5 (p=0.0004), FACT-G +3.7, above the >3 point clinically important threshold ✅ Fatigue (FACIT-F) +1.9 (p=0.0068) ✅ £13,920 to £19,077 per QALY. Median ICER for NICE-approved oncology drugs: £30,000 ⚠️ Open label PROs, 97% of pts White, fatigue effect at the edge of MCID, physical outcomes unchanged ⚠️ 3 intervention-related SAEs, all recovered 🎯 This beat an already-enhanced control, in a population including metastatic pts, delivered through community gyms at scale. 👉I think many of us have been telling patients for years to exercise while on ADT to reduce side effects, now we have trial-grade data! *The figure in this post is not from the paper, based on tabular data!!! 🔗 doi.org/10.1016/S1470-2045(2… @AmerUrological @UroOnc @SUO_YUO @PCFnews @urotoday @UrologyTimes @CaPsurvivorship

Congrats to @DrFAbdollah and team on genuine 10-yr follow-up of a real RCT — rare and valuable, though at n=60/arm, randomization for continence outcomes can't fully protect against chance baseline imbalance in pathology. However, reporting outcomes honestly deserves real credit. Worth reading past the headline: • Post hoc analysis — trial was designed/powered for continence, not oncologic outcomes • Surgeons were highly experienced anteriorly but early in their RS learning curve • pT3 disease 45% (RS) vs 23% (anterior); PSM 25% vs 13% • Only 9 patients remained at risk at the 10-yr mark • Authors fairly call it "hypothesis-generating" Good data, not a verdict. Bigger, prospective, contemporary RCTs will tell us more.
