We've had a productive day with the University of Bristol working on their strategic planning for tackling gender based violence. We were worried that what we were asking of them would be too daunting and overwhelming as there is a LOT to do, but we made good progress!
There are still folks in #HE who say all sexual misconduct reports should be referred to the police. The implication is that victims should shut up and put up with it-if they can’t safely access their education, then that’s just tough. And that is not okay!

Sadly, much of this account sounds familiar to us from our research and activism within universities. But even universities (mostly) now seem to know better than to discourage people from reporting... Unlike this account of the Guardian's response.
I am not the only person. This is not the only case. It is clear to me now that there are many hugely talented women missing today from our industry or not at the level they could've been because they have been sexually assaulted or harassed early on...theneweuropean.co.uk/lucy-si…

It’s happening in UK schools, colleges and universities. People (most often women and girls), targeted & harmed are then betrayed by their communities and the institutions who have legal and ethical duties to protect them. This has to change. It will need courage and leadership.

We’ve been reading the report from @HowlettBrown into the Barlett School of Architecture (BSA) at @UCL which has important reflections on complaints practices and staff-student relationships policies. 🧵

Initially it was ruled his name should be kept anonymous by an internal hearing but they ultimately decided to publish it because: "It is absolutely vital that we are open, transparent, and accountable if we are to restore public confidence in policing".
