Star Trek presents a fascinating contradiction, although perhaps not the one Gene Roddenberry intended.
It imagines humanity progressing beyond money, poverty, and material scarcity, while celebrating individual achievement, innovation, scientific discovery, personal ambition, and freedom.
Yet the technological abundance making this possible would require precisely the productive achievements that capitalism rewards.
Replicators still require resources, energy, infrastructure, maintenance, and innovation. Scarcity doesn't simply disappear because money does.
And perhaps most revealingly, Star Trek's most terrifying villains, the Borg, embody collectivism taken to its logical extreme.
Individual identity is abolished. Personal ambition is irrelevant. Everyone exists to serve the collective. Resistance is futile.
Meanwhile, the Federation's heroes defend individual liberty, voluntary cooperation, independent thought, and personal achievement.
Perhaps Roddenberry wasn't so much rejecting capitalism as imagining a future in which its greatest achievements had made the struggle for material survival largely obsolete.
There's nothing inherently socialist about prosperity so extraordinary that people can pursue their passions without worrying about survival.
And there's certainly nothing anti-capitalist about a civilization built on individual excellence, innovation, and voluntary cooperation.
Star Trek may romanticize socialist economic aspirations, but its heroes consistently defend the individual against the collective.
That's a far more compelling defense of capitalism than its creators may have realized.

The answer isn’t getting the right person into power.
The answer is limiting power so that the person doesn’t matter.

Right wingers: "Yeah Patrick Stewart was a turbo libtard, but he was a great actor and did a lot of fun roles so we are sad he is dead."
The "empathy" people: You need to hate everyone who disagrees with you on a tribal blood feud level.

Somewhere, in a universe next to ours, a man who looks very much like Patrick Stewart wakes up from a long strange dream and begins playing the flute.

Yes, I am saying the Nakba never happened.
Palestinians tried to kill their Jewish neighbors. They lost. They were not invited back.
That’s not a tragedy. It’s the consequences of Jew hate.

“It feels really empty without him,” says 16-year-old Corey Diawara, whose father was deported in July.
His father had lived in the U.S. for 25 years and had no criminal record. Moussa Diawara says he was deported without being able to speak to his lawyer or a judge. He was eventually sent to Mali, a country a U.S. immigration judge ruled he could not be deported to.
In a statement, the Department of Homeland Security told 60 Minutes that Ghana had provided the U.S. with “diplomatic assurances for his safety.” DHS also questioned the credibility of Diawara’s arguments for fearing persecution in Mali. cbsn.ws/4etdVdW
