One of the greatest officers ever to serve in the @BritishArmy. His approach to #leadership was unorthodox but highly successful. The stories about him are the stuff of legend. Interview courtesy of @Telegraph

HORRIFIC: A new video captures the moment terrorists stormed St. George’s Church in Hamoud, Al-Karak, and opened fire on Christians inside.

The thing to watch for now—and we’ll have the figures in a week or so—is how the unionist parties stand in the next @LucidTalk poll. If the DUP takes a significant downward hit Robinson will likely withdraw Emma Little-Pengelly

Today’s News Letter features 13 pages of coverage on Donaldson - the predator in power - including a three-page deep dive by Jilly Beattie, the journalist who first broke the news of his arrest and charge. Notably, P1 focuses entirely on the victims rather than the perpetrator.

My Dad was murdered by the PIRA on the 3/5/85. Despite the difficult start in life, I always obeyed the law and respected authority. Confidence in the rule of law has been decimated with the SOS and CC capitulating to extremism and Republican aggression. Mob rule wins again.

As with the Brexit, when nationalists failed to respect the border recognised by the Good Friday Agreement - threatening ‘civil disobedience at a minimum’! - the threat of violence is rewarded… “Some lawbreakers are more equal than others…” @RhonddaBryant @andyburnham
I think this is a serious mistake by Bryant. I have no particular affinity for the Orange Order. And I appreciate the history and sensitivities of the Drumcree dispute. But the Orangemen made the application in the correct way and secured a lawful determination to hold a much-scaled-back parade. Opponents, including the first minister, then blocked the road (and thereby the parade) unlawfully. And Bryant has given in to them. How is Bryant now going to convince unionists that the rule of law and constitutional politics still point the way forward for Northern Ireland? This has opened a huge can of worms.

If Republicans won’t abide by Parade Commission determinations then why should the rest of us? I think we can say that particularly body should be considered defunct.

It shouldn't even need to be said that a First Minister can't pick or choose which laws to obey. This is basic stuff. And if the shoe was on the other foot and Emma Little Pengelly was camping out on Drumcree hill, Sinn Fein would say exactly the same thing.

What is the point of the Good Friday Agreement if mob rule triumphs over the rule of law? Why do decisions always seem to go only one way? The Parades Commission had made a decision and it has been overturned by threat of violence. A dark day.

Can't really argue against that logic - we have seen over and over that rioting and breaking the law leads to mediation and deals The other logical outworking of designating areas "Nationalist" and "Unionist" is the endorsement of segregation...and then follows "enforcers"
The good news about Garvaghy Road is that in the event of a pro-UI border poll, unionist disregard for the rule of law is now legitimised. According to SF the law of the land means nothing, they will reap what they sow

The scenes on Garvaghy Road chilled unionism: terror songs, balaclavas & lawbreaking worn as a badge of honour. Sinn Féin showed its true colours. By staying lawful & pursuing criminal and political accountability, unionism can expose who the real supremacists are.

Replying to @columeastwood
Is that the best argument you can offer? How persuasive. (Did you tell all those who sent "international solidarity" to the Garvaghy residents to "stay out of it"? Or do you reserve that demand only for people who might not agree with you?)

Victory for the Garvaghy Road residents, for Sinn Fein, and for common sense. Abject defeat for the Orange, the Parades Commission, and the British government. No right has ever been won, or defended, without defying the law. This is triumphant vindication for the law-breakers.
