I take great issue with this new authoritarian pornography law, and I’ll use 4 tweets by the MP behind this bill to demonstrate why (3 of which she’s now deleted.) First, is the inherent vagueness - wholly unacceptable for something risking prison time. Asato herself claims it “unlikely” that “face-sitting without obstructing breathing” to be illegal. Well, which is it? Especially because she elsewhere claims that “consent can be a defence.” That’s a legal argument: making consent the affirmative defence. However, if for example, non-fatal strangulation is treated as serious harm, then that violates the whole principle of consent as affirmative defence. So, is said action serious harm? Who knows? Asato certainly doesn’t. After all, she separates “Breath restriction during sexual activity” & “Strangulation or throat compression” as two separate points. Moreover, Asato’s ridiculous response to Clips4Sale banning numerous categories was that they should’ve “engaged with regulators.” In other words, Asato herself has no clue. It’s abundantly clear that her bill is based on her own personal views of what constitutes proper behaviour in the bedroom. The guidelines ban “gagging during oral sex” - a very normal part of said action. She, and her defenders, may pretend it’s to do with safety, but it’s not. It’s clear it’s her opposition to oral sex in principle. Else, why would she link the article titled ‘Oral sex is now the leading risk factor for throat cancer’ which she claims, “as for harms of oral sex, this is useful to read.” What consenting adults do in the privacy of their homes is their own business, not Asato’s. She deserves to lose her seat in the next election, and this bill needs to be repealed.
