this!!! Because fanfic exists in a gray area it’s actually very easy to remove them if they attract the wrong attention That is why it used to be that ffs used to be enjoyed and recommended with secrecy, whereas now it’s so mainstream we’re having problems we’ve never had before
This situation feels like an effort to get fanfic banned. By making it high profile, people ordering take downs and DMCAs, it's bringing more and more attention. It wouldn't shock me if this is a deliberate attack on one of the last censorship frre spaces on the internet

a person with the nickname "leviathan" being behind the downfall of epub on ao3 is really fitting

are you all being intentionally dense? artists have their art archived all the time. pinterest/rule34/image boards/ etc and its common for these sites to be linked around if the artists dips. the reason why "reposts to personal accounts are looked down on" is because its for profit. they are reposting art as free engagement and money if someone posts your fic for engagement and money then sure! go at it.
you guys know how when people download fan art and then post it on their own accounts even with credit to the og artist, the artist still doesnt like that? and everyone agrees with the artist because there's lack of consent? yeah, so why is that different for writers?

Maybe we shouldn’t be posting the links to Every Single ao3 bootleg the moment you see them. Just privately report and share in group chats, no need to cause this panic that only serves to spread the links to ppl who will actually use them

its such a bullshit excuse because how would the drives even HAVE unpublished drafts of chapters. i looked. it has my fics there. i guarantee you that outside of stranger things, fucking NO ONE is grabbing the obscure fandoms i have to offer and shoving them in a drive.

pointing fingers at actual readers who love your work and give a fuck about its preservation and integrity is short-sighted at best and downright naive at worst. there ARE bad actors that don't give a fuck about you or the fact that fan culture exists for free

but that is a separate, bigger problem rooted in the way social media has trained us to behave. your stuff has been used to generate income for ai platforms for years now. the question is what do we do about it going forward.

I can’t believe you’re falling for these excuses and spreading misinformation teapaw.org/bedchemin/status/21175…
i went on a similar site to see if they had my fic from an acc i used in 2021 and it did but on this site the info hadn’t loaded yet and instead just gave me a file name. looked the file name up and found a published 2025 ao3 data scape with roughly 12.6 mil works

It's absolutely crazy that they think telling an LLM "You will travel the internet, searching far and wide, every drive and obscure board, for the fanfic that hides inside" is easier than just pointing it at AO3 and saying "hey, download absolutely everything."

I'm gonna be so real seeing some people talk about fan artists and fanfic writers like we're fucking enemies is making me fucking insane. Equally so when they act like there's some special artist privilege.

imo the only way for fandoms to be about actually enjoyable community again is 1) people to stop seeing “readers” and “writers” as two inherently separate categories, and 2) everyone to get a lot kinder RIGHT NOW (yes, even when they disagree)

It's kinda crazy how all the evidence seems to point to ao3 being taken down by a data scraping phishing scam, but fandom circles seem more concerned about people uploading epub files of their fics to their personal google drives and whether or not they're getting enough kudos.

я правильно понимаю, что как только ао3 закрываются на техобслуживание предположительно из-за утечки данных, то мгновенно возникает 5-6 клонов скопированных явно не с личных архивов и с уже зарегистрированными именами доменов?

this is why i correctly assumed ganesh is definitely not a lone 17yo who wanted to "experiment"
So just a heads up on this: There are a number of LLCs that were registered yesterday and all mysteriously scraping and creating similar sites that all have the same cache of our materials. The newest offender has yet to "load in batches", meaning they are actively making more.

I don’t believe this story at all…there is no possible way for one person to do this in 4 days by accessing Google drives. All of my podfics were on there. Like, the text version AO3 work that just listed the link on how to access the MP3’s. No one is saving a PDF/EPUB of that

i've already seen people blaming those who shared their personal files for god's sake man let's use our brains to think more than once a minute because this guy is clearly lying about where he got all this 15M fics and drafts

no like they literally are trying to redirect this back onto the fandom community archivists who had backups of AO3 stuff. and it's working.
