this!!!
Because fanfic exists in a gray area it’s actually very easy to remove them if they attract the wrong attention
That is why it used to be that ffs used to be enjoyed and recommended with secrecy, whereas now it’s so mainstream we’re having problems we’ve never had before

a person with the nickname "leviathan" being behind the downfall of epub on ao3 is really fitting

are you all being intentionally dense?
artists have their art archived all the time.
pinterest/rule34/image boards/ etc
and its common for these sites to be linked around if the artists dips.
the reason why "reposts to personal accounts are looked down on" is because its for profit.
they are reposting art as free engagement and money
if someone posts your fic for engagement and money then sure! go at it.

It's absolutely crazy that they think telling an LLM "You will travel the internet, searching far and wide, every drive and obscure board, for the fanfic that hides inside" is easier than just pointing it at AO3 and saying "hey, download absolutely everything."

imo the only way for fandoms to be about actually enjoyable community again is 1) people to stop seeing “readers” and “writers” as two inherently separate categories, and 2) everyone to get a lot kinder RIGHT NOW (yes, even when they disagree)

It's kinda crazy how all the evidence seems to point to ao3 being taken down by a data scraping phishing scam, but fandom circles seem more concerned about people uploading epub files of their fics to their personal google drives and whether or not they're getting enough kudos.

я правильно понимаю, что как только ао3 закрываются на техобслуживание предположительно из-за утечки данных, то мгновенно возникает 5-6 клонов скопированных явно не с личных архивов и с уже зарегистрированными именами доменов?

🐙 AIS VA REVEAL: Matthew Mercer (Critical Role, FF7R, Attack on Titan)
We're thrilled to have the incredible @matthewmercer join the TOUCHSTARVED cast 🤩
Matt has performed many iconic VO roles, and we're honored to add our demon renegade to the list! 🖤

this is why i correctly assumed ganesh is definitely not a lone 17yo who wanted to "experiment"

I don’t believe this story at all…there is no possible way for one person to do this in 4 days by accessing Google drives. All of my podfics were on there. Like, the text version AO3 work that just listed the link on how to access the MP3’s. No one is saving a PDF/EPUB of that

i've already seen people blaming those who shared their personal files for god's sake man let's use our brains to think more than once a minute because this guy is clearly lying about where he got all this 15M fics and drafts

no like they literally are trying to redirect this back onto the fandom community archivists who had backups of AO3 stuff. and it's working.

no, someone putting your fic in a google drive does not give ai the ability to access your drafts?? i know emotions are high but lets use our logic brains, gang. "ganesh" almost definitely got access to breached data. don't let them manipulate you.

Five years ago someone commented on one of my fics asking if they could record a podfic version and post it as a work inspired by. I said sure, and we took things to DMs, and now we’ve got wedding plans. AI is a soulless machine and antithetical to the fandom experience.

Unsurprising that nuance is dead but the website that scrapped ao3 and is trying to charge $ for fanworks is SO VASTLY DIFFERENT than fans sharing epubs and PDFs with other fans.
Acting like these are equivalent is a misrepresentation and actually not helpful.

So ao3 [dot] life is a website whose domain was JUST registered today, with millions (?) of fics as audiobooks within their database. Honestly this is highly suspicious — DO NOT email this site for taking your fics down, they have no business knowing that kind of information.
