Starlink to Cutoff South African Users Starlink, the Internet Service Provider (ISP) owned by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, has announced that it will enforce a travel registration requirement for customers using the Starlink international roaming service in South Africa. After several years of back and forth with the South African government, Starlink still does not have the license to operate legally in South Africa. However, South Africans have been able to buy Starlink kits from countries that have granted the company operating licenses, such as Botswana, and thus use Starlink Roam, a feature for customers who take their Starlink kit with them while travelling. South African users accustomed to making use of the loophole have received notifications asking them to register their travel details or lose access. They are required to upload information such as a customer's name, nationality, date of birth, and government-issued identification, making it harder to disguise a permanent South African user as a traveller.
