Apparently there’s a lady named Dana White who is an DoD public affairs assistant and I guarantee you someone recommended her to Trump and he thought they meant UFC Dana White and nobody is allowed to correct him lol

If you think about this logically for more than three seconds instead of jumping to banal conclusions about how modern games treat gamers like idiots you’d probably realize this was done to prevent trapping players in castle town because the time of day can change there now.

The issue with “Are Videogames Art?” discourse is that too many people fundamentally conflate “art” with “being good”. Plenty of art sucks shit and is still art
Replying to @ItsBrianaWhite
yeah i mentioned this in my review. this game has the templates for so much else of course it feels simple. so much of everything started here! the bones of it should be retained

There's a reason this happens, and it's a very funny one.
English dubbing has adopted this "imitate the Japanese" fumble because of the dub vs. sub debate. While it's largely framed around the culture war these days, dub vs. sub has been around for decades, and the old sub-only crowd was far more Reddit about it, even though Reddit didn't exist yet. They were the comic book guy, but weebier.
At some point, English dub directors started taking their angry ravings on /a/ to heart. Previously, English dubs would hire theater actors, and just let them act. You'd occasionally get dubs using the JP voices for reference, leading to awkward performances like in the OG Gundam dub. But, for the most part, actors were told to act, the main caveat being to match the lip flaps.
But the old sub-only crowd saw the very notion of Japanese media characters speaking in the same language, cadence, and tone as the people in their lives that rejected them as annihilating their escapism. You especially saw this in their reaction to the English voices of anime girls. Hearing their waifu speak with the same voice as the girls who rejected them was a genuine, honest-to-god trigger. I have personally seen some of the most absolutely unhinged and mentally ill forum posts over how a girl sounds in a language track. Haruhi discourse alone...
Because these people were so vocal (and by god were they vocal. Even today a sub-only fan can't go a day without reminding you they're sub-only), dub studios assumed this is what the fans at large wanted: sound more like the Japanese performances.
English dubbing got worse for the oldest reason in the book: trying to appeal to an audience who would never buy your product in the first place. To this segment of the anime fandom, Japanese wasn't the language of the nation of Japan, it was the elven tongue of their happy place. No English performance would gain their approval. And yet studios tried to cater to them. Now this is what we get.

Hidemaro Fujibayashi says he personally reviewed every line of dialogue in Ocarina of Time:
"When it comes to the text of the NPCs, there is a person who’s the lead writer of the game. And there’s also the younger staff that took on some of the roles and focused on specific spots. But all in all, I reviewed every single text of the NPCs. And before, in the original game, each NPC didn’t have a strict 24-hour routine, but in this game, they do. The director said, 'We want to have a 24-hour routine for every NPC.' And in my mind, I was like, 'That’s going to be a lot of work.' [laughs] And I told them, 'That’s going to be a lot of work,' but they said they want to do it. So in my heart, I was like, 'Okay, I guess I’m committed.'
Because on the one hand, I know it’s going to be a lot of work, but I also didn’t want to discourage the young staff from coming up with new ideas and taking on new challenges. So I had to roll up my sleeves and, on a daily basis, try to check as much of the dialogue as possible, working with the team, discussing what can be tweaked, what can be adjusted. So all of that to say that it was a lot of work. [laughs]"

AOC: A note for Gen Z. If you want to understand millennial cringe, what you all call millennial cringe, this earnestness, imagine all the seats we flipped last night. That feeling, plus, on top of it, electing the first Black president ever. And on top of that, you did it the first time you ever voted. That hits generationally. You’ve been chasing that feeling ever since.
And because you did it the first time you ever voted, you’re like, ‘Yeah, we can change the world. Why not? We did it the first time. Let’s just do it again.’

Zelda Ocarina of Time is a timeless masterpiece, the Switch 2 remake only proves this. It remains a great tree of ideas. I actually wish it had a few more changes but it's delightful that this exists. Hyrule Castle Town is a highlight.
