@andyburnham PM you stated at the Infected Blood inquiry : That the government’s response over the decades was primarily driven by a “fear of financial exposure” rather than the needs of victims. Is this why you will not recognise financial losses for education and job prospects. Children were exposed to a multitude of viruses through factor 8 on every dose. F8 contained a 100% transmission of HCV. Not a single haemophiliac has been compensated for the medical negligence at the hands of the state. @DHSCgovuk knew the risk when moving to larger pools. Findings in the report explicitly criticises authorities for “failing to enforce rigorous donor selection criteria”. @fionatwycross How can a child fighting multiple rounds of HCV be expected to achieve their full education potential. Add to that the stigma that was rife in the 80s & 90s exacerbated by the government “dont die of ignorance” campaign. The answer is they didn’t. Failure of the licensing regime: the inquiry found that the U.K. government wrongly licensed and permitted the importation of commercial factor VIII concentrates. Not a single haemophiliac has been recognised for this negligence! The Government scheme recognises viruses but not route of infection and the failures that @GOVUK allowed when licensing Factor VIII for use on a vulnerable group of haemophiliacs. Who approved factor VIII in the @DHSCgovuk who signed to say that it was safe? Who gave the “green light” to use haemophiliacs for research. Who signed off the paperwork to proceed? Who also took out the sentence in the governments draft document when discussing lost career / education opportunities for infected children? When talking about financial losses, the draft document stated that “it would not benefit those who were impacted so much earlier in life that they were not able to even embark on the necessary steps for that Career”. Is that not an admission that infected children including those with HCV. @andyburnham you was very vocal regarding haemophiliacs being given infected blood and that it was known it was contaminated. Since you have become PM you have been silent! Our group MHH wrote to you and this letter was handed in by myself. You have not replied and sadly our community feel completely blindsided by your lack of candor. @fionatwycross @cabinetofficeuk @LouHaigh Robin Healey @UKHouseofLords It is unacceptable that Mono HCV haemophiliacs keep being swept under the carpet. We were knowingly infected with dirty disease ridden factor as children. We lost our education and future job prospects. We would have had an education had @DHSCgovuk not given the go ahead to use haemophiliacs for research. We are not the same as a life saving blood transfusion victim. Every batch of factor VIII contained HCV, every batch! That is 100% risk of viral infection. Blood transfusion was less than 1% and given to save a life. Factor VIII was given to kids who were mild haemophiliacs for tooth extraction, joint pain and almost for the hell of it. @DHSCgovuk have given us a life sentence we urge you @katehaemophili1 @HaemoSocUK to speak up for our forgotten cohort of mono HCV haemophiliacs. #NotRecognised #NotAnAccident 100% risk of HCV in factor 8. Moving to larger pools created bigger risks of viruses. Mono HCV haemophiliacs have not had their childhood loses recognised. Multiple re infection with every dose of factor. Extremely unwell through school, fatigue, photos of kids yellow because of their bodies fighting HCV all unrecognised. We are not the same as an older transfusion victim.
